hello, i'm new here and kind of new to shotguns. got a couple questions maybe someone can answear for me. both question concern a varney-carron 12ga double barrel that i think was made sometime in the 1930's not sure of that. question 1 can i buy the 2 1/2 shells in the usa if so where at question 2 could the barrels be bored for the 2 3/4 shells
the markings on the barrle are
a single crown with pt
65mm =2 1/2 shells
18.2mm =12ga
em choke i think that means modifyied
and the ser# 18252
the gun is in nice condition so i would like to use it some.
thanks bill

2 and 2-1/2 inch shells are available from polywad.....IF you had it bored to 2-3/4, it would then to be reproofed

better off having a knowledgeable smith look at it, but I would get the 2-1/2" shells and then reload them to the proper loads

Polywad for the shells. Verney Carron is a well known and respected brand.

As with all older shotguns, a trip to Mr Gunsmith is in order BEFORE firing.

thanks for the info on polywad going to order a case after haveing the gun checked out

bill

Verney Carron no 5414 here had its chambers lengthened to 2 3/4" for use mostly in CAS.

Naturally you should have any such work done by a competent shop that will be sure the barrels are thick enough that extra 1/4" down the way.

jim watson, do you know what year your gun was made i'm still trying to figure out how old mine is. varney-carron cannot help they said they lost all their record's due to a flood

bill

If the maker doesn't have records - and I had checked, too - there is not much chance of pegging the manufacturing date. French proof marks don't include the year.
