Hi guys, I'm getting a .410 Saiga shotgun. This gun is for fun, but is also an introduction gun to me for shotguns.

2 questions for you guys..

This saiga is a .410, 3" shells...will it feed 2 1/2" as well?

If I want to shoot slugs(which I plan on doing alot of) do I need to remove the choke?

thanks

If it has swappable choke tubes, DO NOT SHOOT WITHOUT A TUBE INSTALLED.

You will mangle the threads, and NO choke tube will be installable.

I would never try to talk a man out of a new toy he has his heart set on. But have you considered how expensive a .410 is to feed? Slugs can cost from .75cents to a $1.50 a shot and that's conservative on the top end. It looks as though you can shoot all lengths of shells, according to the info on the saiga website. And shoot a loose choke restriction with slugs, it usually works better. Just remember, as length increases so does price. Hope you have a healthy checkbook. :scrutiny:

I'm not too worried about the ammo cost of a .410.
I think I will mostly shoot solid slugs anyway, and save the shot for when I'm out with some New Mexico locals blastin at rabbits :)

I haven't been able to take advantage of all the open space out here since my .308 is still in New Hampshire. I figure I can get at LEAST 100 yards worth of accuracy out of the saiga with slugs, and the ammo will still be cheaper than .308's, which is my motivation for buying this gun. multifunctionality

Thanks for all the advice guys.

The cost of .410 slugs will be about the same or perhaps a bit more than factory loaded .308 ammo. As for 100 yard accuracy with the .410 slugs, good luck on that. I'm not sure what you plan to hit at 100 yards with a .410 slug, but I hope it's BIG in size.

I agree with pete... ive never heard of a shotgun that had MOA accuracy. If you want to shoot a shotgun for fun I cant suggest what you should get, because everyones definition of fun is different. Dont be disappointed though if "fun" includes distance shooting, because your shotgun will not deliver.

And Small in stature.

A .410 slug at 100 yards has about the same remaining energy as a stone from a pebble-flipper!

#1, a 20 ga. is a better choice due to cost and effectiveness.

#2, 100 yd shots with an unrifled shotgun are mostly fantasy, and a .410 slug at that range ain't got much left.
