Velocity consistency question

just wondering......how far away from the muzzle is your crony set and do you keep a constint distance every time your go to the range?

Today it was about 10' and I try to keep it close to that.

Near by shooters can cause it to err so I have to wait till they are taking a short break.

Good thread guys. Can't really add anything but it's a lot of good information to digest Being fairly new to reloading it has shown me some things I need to work on.

Something that keeps coming up in my mind is my methods for powder measure. At one point I found myself using four different scales to measure the same charge to see if all agreed on the amount. And yesterday I came across a thread about a lab quality scale that will measure the individual grain and that got me to thinking that maybe if I used it then I can shorten the distance between my lowest velocity and high velocity.

What are your thoughts on going to this extreme for powder measure?
I currently use the Hornady LNL auto charge powder dispenser and I also have and RCBS 1010. Are these tools enough or do I need to step out and get this particular scale?
What are your guys's thoughts on what is enough for proper powder measure?

*Yawn*

Throw your charges and go shoot. Learn to shoot. Learn to read conditions.

This is a 243 test I ran. All 1X R-P brass. All trimmed. All weighed charges. The only variation was in the amount of crimp pressure applied to the case with a Consistent Crimp Tool. ((If you ask I have 3 studies on it)

SD's and ES are all over the place but best groups are interesting. The groups moved POI based on the amount of crimp pressure.

Thanks GLShooter, your distance between the lowest FPS and highest is much closer then mine.

My groups are great (.31 to .19) I just want to get my FPS more normalized for work at 1000.

I'll keep working with it.
