did anyone know there is a vent hole on lee full lenght dies? I did not and when sizing .223 could not figure out why I had dented shoulders from hardened lee lube, come to find out from lee they put a vent hole in the die to relieve any excess lube. It needs to be cleaned out with a paper clip every so offen.

That is a good tip, but I think it's there to vent air, although you will see lube ooze out. Shoulder dents are gonna happen even if the hole was twice as large and free because of too much, or perhaps in your case rock hard lube.

S. Indiana huh... Where abouts? I'm in Columbus now, and have lived in Brownstown and Tampico.

i clean my dies with some petrol then isopropyl alcohol before starting on them. i use a home made combination of lanolin and alcohol for a lube now and it is very good. the cleaning is an important part of the process it saves them hydraulic dents.

combination of lanolin and alcohol

Are you using isopropal or denatured? In any case, they don't mix well with the lanolin for me.

I have a very old bottle of Dillon pump spray lube that is some form of alcohol and lanolin. Can't double check as it is packed in a box in another state. This move is causing me reloading gear separation anxiety. :)

yes isopropyl and lanolin mixed, i warmed both up before mixing, in the winter it takes quite a lot of mixing and i bring it in the house and stand it on a radiator to warm up. i then shake it very well before spraying

Vent or no vent, if you get shoulder dents you are using way too much case lube.

Truth be known, the neck & shoulder don't even need to be lubed.

It's squeezing down the thicker case web taper that takes all the pressure, and causes stuck cases if not lubed enough.
