Heres the deal. I've had an AR lower for a while now and no upper. I was considering ordering a 16" RRA Mid from Adco for $400 this summer.

With the VEPR buy going on right now I am tempted to get a pair in 7.62 and 5.56. This is subjective to fondling one to make sure it feels good.

The 5.56 AK would be an extra $120 over the Upper.

Honestly if I get the VEPR 5.56 first I'll get the upper sometime anyway. If I just order the 7.62 VEPR who knows if I'll get the 5.56 as well.

What do you guys think take advantage of Correia's generous buy and get the 5.56 and 7.62 or just get the 7.62 and order the upper?

Edit: I have no real need for these rifles. I'm not a LEO nor do I play one on the internet. They will be mainly for fun plinking and the cool factor, with a 3rd level HD role. May also take a Carbine class next year using one of them.

I'd get the Vepr. You kinda answered your own question from the get-go, to my eyes. For $150 more than half a rifle, you can get a whole rifle. Add in the fact that you may never see a NIB Vepr again at this price, seems like that's the one to buy. You can always look for killer deals on AR uppers later.

I dunno which caliber you "should" get, but from my POV you already have a rifle in 5.56 ... might as well branch out a little. Me? I have an AR in 5.56, a SAR-1 in 7.62x39, a few battle rifles in 7.62 NATO ... so I'm getting my Vepr in 5.45 Russian. Variety is the spice of life.

I'm with Con on this. Personally, I'm very close to signing on for a 16" 5.45mm Vepr. ;)

(But I already have two AR's....)

Thanks guys.

I had considered getting the 5.45 for the original Russian aspect and cool factor but was considering the 5.56 for ammo availability and compatability with the eventual AR.

Ohh the choices
