hey everyone, i have a remington 870 express, and im outfitting this to hunt deer.. however, im wondering if its ok and legal to use a vertical pistol grip for comfort purposes.. my wrist gets fatiqued quicker than normal due to damage sustained to the bones.. hand functions perfectly normal except at the angle needed to hold the standard stock, it tends to hurt pretty bad

so... i was wondering if a fixed stock with a vertical grip would be legal for hunting?... and if so, what would you recommend? an 870 specific grip/stock combo, or an AR15 furniture adapter with fixed stock and ergonomic grip?

You'd have to check your state laws and game codes to be absolutely sure, but I've never heard of a state that prohibited a gun from hunting uses based on what kind of grip it has!

You'd certainly want an 870 specific stock. The Ar-15 adaptors and stocks just aren't going to be comfortable (or possibly even durable) under hunting use. (IMHO)

Those are common enough now -- especially sold for turkey hunting where the usual seated/knees up position most turkey hunters use make a pistol gripped stock much more ergonomic.

the two fixed stocks im looking at as a possibility are the ATI fixed stock, and the one from mesa tactical, has anyone used either of these on their pumps?

I have a knoxx stock, it reduces the recoil a bit over a standard stock, or at least it did for me.

While it might not be mentioned as prohibited for hunting, in certain states such items might be forbidden to use for any reason, so the advice to check your local laws is apropos

Lots of states are more accommodating to the disabled. Especially with the wounded warriors coming home...

+1 on the knoxx, I put one on my Mossberg 835 turkey gun. The pistol grip and adjustable stock are really comfortable. Check state and hunting Regs on pistol grips.

Take a look at the Remington Shurshot stock...I bought one for grins and giggles and turns out it works really well :).

Just my .02,
LeonCarr
