i was at the range saturday, and i was shooting my kimber tle, 230 gr winchester fmj, out of a mccormack magazine, and twice it did something really weird.
the last round (8th) fired and the empty case ejected straight up and landed on the bench. i picked up the brass and it appears to have been pinched, one side has a large indention on the neck, the other side has a smaller indention.
the first time it happened, i thought it was a fluke. the second time got me puzzled.
i asked a couple other people at the range if they'd ever seen brass eject out like that and no one had. (i thought i could scan the brass here at my office, but it came out really crappy, so i'll get my friend to lend me his digital camera tonight.

i know this will be a tough question to answer, seeing how right now i dont have a pic up of it, but under what circumstances would brass be ejected with the neck pinched?

when i got home i did a thorough cleaning, and thanks to the suggestion of another shooter at the range, pulled the extractor out. very dirty and gunked up, but otherwise looked okay.

i never use the mccormack magazines for carry, just range use. part of me wants to believe it is somehow related to the magazine, but i'm still a newbie. anyone have any ideas?

Did the slide lock back on the 8th shot? If not then the case might be getting pinched as the slide closes back and the follower might not be pushing up enough for proper extraction or ejection.

If the slide does lock back, then I'm stumped . . .

yep, locked back just fine.
i tried replicating the anomaly by loading the mccormack magazines with one round only, and i checked the ejected rounds. didnt happen the next 5 times, so i think i'll stop using those mccormack magazines until i get this figured out.

thanks robear, that looks like whats happening with me. i'll go have my extractor/ejector looked at.
i also should replace the recoil spring.

however, i'm still pondering the magazine issue. after the two pinched brass came out, i ran another 150 rounds through with my wilson 47d's; no problems. maybe the magazine spring doesnt have enough tension?
