Hi, gang. Long-time lurker, first-time posting. Thank you to all who post; it's been helpful, interesting and sometimes downright amusing.

I just inherited a bunch of brass and I am about to start reloading for my Garands.

A fair amount of the -06 brass is FA 58 MATCH. I've read that FA 57 has a spotty rep, but don't see much on FA 58 or FA 58 MATCH. This brass APPEARS once-fired.

Considering their age (almost as old as me, and everything on me hurts), I am just a tiny bit apprehensive, but not enough to toss several hundred cases if they're probably good.

Anyone have experience with FA 58 MATCH brass?

(Backstory: I'm a 25-year Bullseye Pistol competitor, one-time state pistol champion, and just got back from my 17th or 18th Camp Perry, so I'm a seasoned reloader and know my way around a gun.)

Photos!! we love pictures here

That's not that old. You might find it wears out (necks and pockets) faster than modern brass, but I suspect that's as much quality as age.

Load on!
I have loaded some the the ugliest brass and made some of the ugliest cartridge. And it worked fine! Brass 80 year ago is still brass 1,000 years from now

That brass looks terrible!

You can send it to me to get rid of, my '03 Springfield will help get rid of it.

Welcome to THR!
The brass looks fine, I’ve not read anything to indicate it’d be a problem. The only suggestion I’d have is to wet tumble to get the inside clean :)!

Just remember to choose an appropriate recipe for a Garand. Good luck.

I do not have a Garand but do have two 30-06 bolt rifles. I reload some 1958,1960,1963, and 1966 match brass all works just fine. The 58 is the same age as me! Wish I was in as good shape LOL. My rifles both do best with 180 or 200 grain bullets though. As mentioned use Garand appropriate loads to keep it from being damaged.
