Shooting plastic water bottles with .45 ACP and 10mm to see which ones give the most dramatic effects. We start with 2-liter bottles ans work our way down to 8-ounce club soda bottles.
The video seemed a lil 10mm bias I think. The 45 could of been loaded a little hotter than that. Were the 10mm handloads also? Still a good vid water could make some fun targets.
I wasn't trying to stack he deck for the 10mm. I love .45 ACP too. It is what I carry every day.
The 10mm were also handloads...180-gr plated bullet at 1250 fps.
In the .45 ACP I used my lead bullet target loads. My FMJ training loads are hotter, if I'd thought to bring someto the range that day. But I didn't expect such an anemic result on the bottles from the lead target loads.
I've shot and wasted a lot of water and bottles. Most recent: The M&P .45 with 230gn +p XTP's my reloads, 155gn XTP's +P 10mm my reloads if that means anything. And 158gn XTP's loaded to Very hot / +P mag loads.
The .45 acp and .357 made a good show. The 10mm makes mist and massive debris. 1 gal. mike jugs, 2L, 1L, and 12 to 16 oz plastic bottle's just explode and sard out with the 10mm.
The acid test was a box of 100 ea. AC 120/240v ac to 12/24v ac open coil wound step down transformers. (known to be defective field scrap) The 10mm always sent the transformers flying farther down range than the .45 acp or .357 loads. Shooting those transformers at my local outdoor range was very interesting to say the least. I figured the .45 acp with it's heavy bullet would win. And the mad H110 .357's to all but go through the transformers. Which would have been impressive. But to big 10mm hit them at the 25 yard mark (all shots taken off rest) and sent them 25 yards down range. While the .45 and .357 struggled to launch them 10 to 12 yards.
It took a very hot loaded 500 Smith to make the transformers explode. And it pretty much vaporized them.
Lesson learned: Caliber and fps do cross a line of no return. Bigger is only better if you can make it go faster. And when you can make big and fast work. The result is impressive as hell!
