Measure, trim, Neck size or full resize? Or dont bother... load up and go bang?

RWS and remington brass in 8x60s and .260 Rem...........

For Lapua brass, I just load it. If the necks are dented or don't have the same neck tension, a resize or partial resize can be helpful to make those consistent. I've even "just loaded" Remington brass and it worked out OK.

A good barrel and good/true chamber helps a lot, I think.

I primarily use winchester or remington brass, basically not the expensive stuff. I full length size, trim, chamfer, deburr and primer pcket uniform. I only do this once for .223 and pistol brass as it doent seem to grow much, but .270, .30-06, 30-40 Krag, 7.62x54r and some others need it more. Everyone has their own favorite method though.

I look them over pretty good and then full length size, trim, chamfer, and deburr. The QC these days isn't what it once was.

Thank you. Guess I am going to randomly select a few cases and measure them. If they are the correct length will load. otherwise size, trim, polish and load.

There are clearly plenty of different opinions on this..... mine is that they should all be fully prepped and full length resized, legth trimmed, chamfered primer pockets inspected. before loading first time

Skewz me, but how can you RE-load Virgin brass?????? You can load Virgin brass, but if you are reloading, it, it has to be eehhhh eeeeeerrrrrr aaaaaaaahhh the - - - - - - "other kind" - - - - of brass.

Avoid lots of busy work...

Afy--just spring for the really good brass and it's all done for you, with great consistency.

Norma, Lapua, or Nosler brass will be to spec, uniform, and ready to go. Even drilled, not punched, flash holes. This new Hornady 6.5 Creedmoor brass is getting a lot of ink, but time will tell if it's up there in quality with the Big Boys.

Buy Win or Rem brass and do the work yourself.

You get what you pay for. I am by no means rich, but even so, Mr. Norma or Mr. Lapua does my brass prep putzing for me whenever it can be managed.

why I buy NEW brass, i run it through the whole process... FL size, trim, chamfer.... etc...

I too, don't assume anything with new brass. I run it through the whole process,(tumble, to remove any factory lubrication left over from the manufacturing process, full length resize, trim to length, chamfer inside and outside of mouth, make the primer pocket uniform and make the flash hole uniform)

Full size emm. i cant tell you how many will actually need it. Usually most of them. I was loading some 45 Colt today. Brand New Winchester Brass. the flash holes looked a little shotty so i re did them. Then i Pulled out the decapper from my die. Then rand them through the sizer. All of them needed to be resized every one of them. Everyone one of them i felt resistance on the arm. Every one of them showed the signs on the side of the resizing. Same time i took a .451 bullet before i full sized them The bullet could be pushed in by hand and pulled out by hand. some of my .452 bullets you could have done the same thing. After the sizing they were all uniformally good. This is why i always resize new brass. So its up to you after that. You can use a hand primer to intall the primer. Use a dipper to pour the powder. Then use your thumb to press in the bullet. Heck may even save some money. Then when your wondering why you cant hit anything. Well you will know why.

Straight walled pistol cases get fully resized. Otherwise they are too big to hold the bullet! Don't ask how I know!
