This is cross posted from www.packing.org ...

SB660 passed the senate 3 to 1 ! If you are in Virginia, OR would potentially fly into Virginia via Reagan National, or Dulles, this new bill would give the MWAA goons more power to arrest.

Goons, you ask? see here:

We need help from everyone to defeat this bill. If you haven't already, please let the Virginia House of Delegates know that you oppose this bill; Use VCDL's reflector:
http://www2.vcdl.org/cgi-bin/wspd_cgi.sh/vcdl/reflector.html?REF=setageled

If you're not a resident, but could help us out, please do so using the reflector above. Let the Delegates know that you'll spend your tourist dollars elsewhere if this bill passes. If you are a resident, or have otherwise already emailed the House, REMIND them ! Finally, here are some talking points to help:

Thanks!

The last few times I've flown into and out of Dulles (granted, over a year ago) there have been National Guard with M-16s. I wouldn't worry about concealed carry in VA airports, and you can still check firearms in your luggage for transportation.

It's worrisome because it represents the imposition of a further infringement on my right to bear arms.

I am not comforted by the fact that there are armed Federal troops in the airport. Those can be withdrawn at the whim of the President or head of TSA, at which time the unconstitutional restriction on carrying will still be in place.

The troops in the terminal won't protect me in the parking lot at Dulles or Reagan National. The remote parking at Reagan for example, is fully accessible to any criminal who cares to walk in from the Mt. Vernon bike trail. If CCW is prohibited in the non-secure areas of the terminals I am forced to lock my weapon in my car in order to see anyone off in the terminal.

The Metropolitin Washington Airports Authority will undoubtedly interpert this as prohibiting CCW in all areas of airport property and adjoining roadways.

Finally, there is absolutely no good reason at all for the imposition of this restriction. Virginia CCW permit holders are one of the most responsible and law abiding groups in the State.

Please read the details from this story - which was also discussed here.

In summary, this guy DID check his firearms - lawfully - and what did he get for it?

This bill doesn't fix any problem, would only perpetuate MWAA's threats agains gun owners in Virginia, and, it would be unconstitutional ...

Just askin' for a little help...

The problem, as Dave has stated, is not the checking in of firearms for those flying into and out of Dulles and National Airport. But the additional restrictions imposed on those of us who go to these airports to pickup or drop off travelers. Such as parking in the parking lots and waiting for your guests to emerge from the terminal. In addition, the airport authorities want to further deny permit holders legally CCW in unsecure areas outside of the metal detectors. Again, in those instances when we are waiting to pick up arriving travelers.

Also, I can't see how the airport authorities can legally deny me and others from using bordering public roads (outside the airport property fences) if we CCW. I travel that area almost daily going from one part of Fairfax County to another.

If this legislation proceeds, what are these airport authorities going to do with all the homes that border airport property, deny the homeowners thier 2nd Amendment rights and confiscate their firearms?
