Potomac Arms, is that on the river? I do believe I've driven by there, I occasionally use a 'smith in the area. Always wondered what was in there, but they always looked like they were closed.

kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Last time I was in Shooters Paradise, they had lost their FFL. Are they back?

+1 on Gilberts, but expensive to shoot there.

Dawson's on Rt 1 in Woodbridge is OK too...small place but good people.

Yes, Potomac Arms is 0 Prince Street, east of Union, right by the river. the Union Street Pub is a good place to eat if you're knocking around Old Town. They do look closed, but they're usually open, Military surplus on the first floor, guns shop on the second. they usually have a pretty good selection of used stuff. I haven't been to Shooter's since last fall, but last I heard, they were a going concern.

If you end up heading up Baltimore way, it's worth going another 20 minutes to the US Army Ordnance Museum at Aberdeen Proving Grounds.

Dominion Shooting Range just across the James river from downtown Richmond has a range with full auto rentals. Uzi, sten, lots of nice ones. Have to buy their ammo though. They have some nice pieces on the used rack also. Greentop as has been mentioned is very nice, lots of handguns. Shoot, they've got it all. When in the Richmond area, be sure to make time for some awesome Civil War sites if you like history. The Medical Museum of the Confederacy is incredible. It's cool to see a period photo of some Civil War bigwig and then have the exact same uniform in the picture displayed alongside it! Lots of unreal stuff came out of those old ladies attics in Richmond.

Loudon Guns in Leesbur has a nice selection, albeit pricey. More genteel than most, with a broad range of sidearms, knives and optics. I've purchased a single action from them.

Purcell Guns in Purcellvile is also a nice/small shop. Smaller selection, but the owner Dale is a good guy. I've a snubbie and deer rifle from him.

If you are interested in Glocks, the Trading Post in Wasington, Virginia (near the mountains) has good prices, but the selection for sidearms is limited.

Nice drive on a motorcycle, however.

Been out to Clarks Brothers a couple of times. Enjoyed the ride. Found shooting range too loud under the tin roof. Surprisingly, the NRA range (indoor) was quieter.

The NRA mueseum (off of 66) is open daily from 10-4 and is free. If you are anything like me, you will be VERY impressed with the breadth and depth of their collection.

Amen to the above. The only problem with visiting the NRA museum is the drool ruined shirt their collection causes. Aberdeen is the same inspiring type of smallarm museum with the added attraction of a hundred or so tanks, rockets, APCs, etc. to see.

Another very interesting but somewhat obscure museum is the Cryptologic Museum off the Baltimore/Washington Parkway near Fort Meade and the NSA. Full of neat spy stuff.
