Where in Va are you looking for? There are several nice ones in different areas of the state. Near Bristol, in SW Va, is Kettlefoot Club, which has specific shooting areas for pistol, shotgun, smallbore rifle and centerfire rifle out to 200 yards.

Ok either around Roanoke/smith mountain lake
Or near Fairfax in north VA
EDIT: public or if private easy to join

Yeah, it's a big state.

If you are down here by Tidewater (Norfolk/Virginia Beach/Chesapeake area) I would HIGHLY reccomend the C2 Shooting Center:

It's the nicest range I have ever shot on.

Edited to add:

Whoops. that's about 5 hours drive. If you were headed this way, I'd still say check it out.

I've only been there once, but the NRA has a 50-yard indoor range at their HQ in Fairfax, VA (on Waples Mill Road). IIRC, they accept any cartridge up to, but not including, .50 BMG.

Also, IIRC, you have to be a member to shoot there (shouldn't be an issue for anyone on this forum... grin.gif ).

Near Blacksburg (SW of Roanoke), it'd be tough to beat the free outdoor range at Jefferson National Park.

In Northern Virginia, you have a few options:
-NRA Headquarters Range in Fairfax, VA (indoor)
-Izaak Walton League of America in Centreville or near Quantico (outdoor, private)
-Fairfax Rod & Gun Club (outdoor, private, $$$ to join)
-Quantico Shooting Club (on base but open membership)

Shorter indoor ranges in NoVA:
-Blue Ridge Arsenal in Chantilly
-Sharp Shooters in Lorton

If memory serves, you do not have to be an NRA member to shoot at their range, but there is a small discount for members. Also definitely worth checking out in the area - Bull Run Shooting Center, with some great facilities for shotgun games.
