I'm a college student and will be attending Southern Virginia University in Lexington/Buena Vista this fall, and I'd like to take a firearm or two with me (my 10/22 and a 9mm). Problem is, they don't allow firearms on campus at all, so I'm looking for some sort of location where I can store them? Like a range or some business with those kinds of facilities. I don't even know where to start, so that's why I'm asking. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

Should have gone to Hampden-Sydney, the only institution of higher learning in the world to have a student gun locker on campus.

Can't help you with a range or whatever but if all else fails consider a self-storage area. you can rent a fairly large storage room for not much at all (+/- $40 per month or less). Some places have indoor storage areas also, not sure of the cost of those. Mayby you'll run intosomeone on campus with similisr interests and they may have friends/relatives with storage available.

Look into off campus housing as soon as possible (some VA universities require freshmen to live on campus), and your storage problem (as well as drunken lunatic problem) will diminish.

I'll second that! Drop in and look me up; I'm sure we can get you sold on the place in short order. (HSC, 2012... I graduate when the world ends)

Best I can tell you is find a friend who lives off campus and see if he (or, even better, she) will let you store them there.

Have to disagree with the statement of HSC being the only one with a gun locker for students. Emory & Henry College where I attend does have a gun locker but does not publicize it. I would suggest that you call the campus security office and ask them, you may be surprised with the answer that you get.

I can't help with gun storage, but if you need a cheap range to join, Blue Ridge has 100-yard rifle range, some pistol pits and a trap machine. And an outhouse. My father and I belonged for many years. It was $25 or $35 a year iirc. Pretty place too and never crowded or even busy. They send you your own gate key. John
