''If you don't live or work in VA the best thing to do is...''

    Echo...

Sounds bouncing back off a nearby hard surface. ALL LEGAL battles are very co$tly especially against a government body with unlimited resources...

Donate $$ to the VCDL:thumbup: . $5, $20, WHATEVER it all adds up!

The rep from my adjoining district came in the store yesterday about 4, just before I left. I usually leave at 2 but a bunch of staff is at shot show.
He represents the district the store is in. He is a casual shooter and an ally.
I never really talked to him, but invited him in the back room for coffee and snacks.

    I asked him:

What is the best, most effective way to communicate with a legislature. What do you pay the attention to!

He said the order of weight he follows are:
    1 personal visit
    2 email
    3 text
    phone call.

More attention for well dressed articulate visits , well written emails and texts, concise phone calls and supplementary references and cites.

Less attention for rants, poor grammer , and non sequiturs.

No attention to insults, threats, and profanity.

    Good guidlines to follow

bikerdoc Post #27. Most excellant advice that deserves repeating.

Try to take the attitude that you're are pointing out facts to a friend who is merely mistaken and needs gentle correction.
We need to study Dale Carnegie How to Win Friends and Influence People.
The current us v them How to Make Enemies and Alienate Allies is a losing strategy.

Yes I agree 100%+ , and that is why the 'likes.'

REMEMBER, the rally was excellent, left less trash then when it started, the Rep said this, Senator said that... yet the VA legislature is marching on HARD LEFT even ramped up a notch recent legislation, AFTER the rally...

ANY skin in the game at all friends? Sent an email, phoned, donated a few cups of coffee money to VCDL?

People of VA, prepare yourself for a legal battle like we have already done so in CA but have hope as we have already won many cases as courts have ruled them unconstitutional.

We elect law makers to represent the voters and to uphold the Constitution. But when law makers write unconstitutional bills and pass them to become laws, it is the courts who will rule those laws unconstitutional.

When people's voice is ignored by the elected officials, you recall them or vote them out. On 1/20/20, people of VA spoke loud and clear, yet the law makers will not stop pursuing their unconstitutional bills and will vote them into laws.

So, it's time to take action against these law makers and the state governor. Get organized, mobilize and fund your legal battle. Get together with your local and state Republican Party offices and coordinate efforts to rally support of the people and vote out anti gun law makers in future elections. Fund pro-gun organizations to sue the state and speak to VCDL, NRA-ILA, etc. to coordinate a legal battle. And gun owners across the country will help fund your legal battle.

As we have found in CA, legal battles are expensive costing millions. Just like WWII war efforts, time to build a war chest by spreading the word and fund raising. Work with VCDL and Republican Party offices how best to fund raise (May need to consult professionals who do this for a living). Set up more VCDL Go Fund Me page for us to donate and we will help spread the word and help fund raise - https://www.gofundme.com/f/1v38qzeq9c

Time to get motivated. Transfer your frustration and anger into effective action.

People of Virginia can do this as you have done it before.

And you will have the support of gun owners all across the country as we stand with you.

One purpose of the rally is to show what kind of people own guns.

Let us understand why the rank-and-file support gun control laws.

    Let us understand their perspective.

    They live very sheltered lives.

They hear stories of people mugged in the streets by street thugs.

They hear stories of children gunned down in the street by gangs.

As Marco Rubio pointed out, gun control has been advertised as a method of keeping handguns out of the possession of the gangbanger or the street thug doing these muggings and shootings. They are afraid that the street thugs and gangbangers might rob or kill their kids, so they want to get the assault rifles off the street. They want to reduce the proliferation of guns in society.

They want warrantless searches of public housing projects where much of the crime and gun violence comes from.

They want the police to just stop and frisk street thugs and gangbangers on a hunch.

But like almost all people, they do not understand the perspective of others who do not share their lived experiences.

They do not understand the perspective of the young black man who has to work nights in high-crime, inner city neighborhoods to support his family.

They do not understand why he needs to carry an unregistered handgun for protection because the police refuse to protect him.

They do not understand that the reason he can not get a permit nor register his handgun is because, despite meeting all statutory criteria for a handgun permit, the police do not believe having to work late nights in crime-ridden, inner-city neighborhoods to be “good cause” to issue a permit.

They do not understand his fear, on top of being accosted by a street thug or getting caught in a shootout by gangbangers, of being caught with an unregistered handgun by the police, of being treated just like the street thugs and gangbangers he wants to protect himself and his family from, of being incarcerated for possession, of being separated from his family, and suffering from the disabilities felons experience after release from custody.

But with this rally, the rank-and-file can no longer have the illusion that only street thugs and gangbangers want guns.

And such law makers who are clueless about life have no business governing "We the People".

We want and need law makers who represent our voice.

At some point, talking will fall on their deaf ears no matter how much we rally. Voting them out of office one by one will. ;)

And the people of VA must capitalize on that and the rest of the 2A community needs to fund the effort.

In Va Beach due to family medical emergency, but live in Raleigh NC. Nice coincidence that there’s a gun show at the Va Beach Convention Center. Joined VCDL and made additional $100 donation, all while standing in line waiting for the doors to open

Other very bad bills will also be heard tomorrow. My delegate, no matter how many phone calls or emails, has voted badly for every gun control bill and she is in a 2nd amendment sanctuary county. Others legislators her are doing the same...

To bring this thread back to something more concrete, tomorrow, Feb. 11, is "crossover day" which is the deadline for each House in the Virginia legislature to pass its own legislation and send it to the other House. What this means is that HB 961, the AWB, as approved in committee, must pass the House of Delegates today or tomorrow or it is dead for the session. This is the time to put maximum pressure on your representatives.

Where should attention be focused to make those bills stop in their tracks?

From my post in https://thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/va-hb961-on-fridays-agenda.863242/ ---

Next step is to get through a full-floor House vote, which it MUST do before Tuesday, so that it can be sent to the Senate. I got this email, which identifies 13 of the most-likely-to-be-swayed delegates (I think, but haven't confirmed, that they are the ones who barely won/were unopposed). CALL EVERY ONE NOW! Also, since they always want to know if you are in their district, the email covers that in the last paragraph:

    Fellow Virginians,
As you read this, we are calling tens of thousands of gun owners in Virginia, urging them to call their elected State Delegates and tell them to vote NO on any form of House Bill 961, the Mass Gun Ban.

And now we are asking you to do the same thing.

You need act now and call every single Delegate on this list and tell them they must vote against House Bill 961, no matter what amendments are added or what changes are made.

Tell them there is NO COMPROMISE!

    Delegate Dawn M. Adams-804-698-1068
    Delegate Hala S. Ayala-804-698-1051
    Delegate Lamont Bagby-804-698-1074
    Delegate David L. Bulova-804-698-1037
    Delegate Nancy Guy- 804-698-1083
    Delegate Roslyn Tyler- 804-698-1075
    Delegate C. E. (Cliff) Hayes Jr.-804-698-1077
    Delegate Lee J. Carter-804-698-1050
    Delegate Karrie K. Delaney- 804-698-1067
    Delegate Wendy Gooditis- 804-698-1010
    Delegate Stephen E. Heretick-804-698-1079
    Delegate Sally L. Hudson 804-698-1057
    Delegate Jerrauld C. (Jay) Jones-804-698-1089

We often get asked if it matters if you are a resident of their districts or not. For all you have to say is that if they vote for House Bill 961 you will donate heavily to their opponent in the next election.

    So call now!

My rep is in that list.
    He listens to phone calls.
But does not respond to emails.
I expressed my surprise to this.
    .
He has been told by others that his future relies on voting no, on HB 961. Lot of money and time standing by.

Since HB 961 was just passed in the Virginia House, the debate will now have to move into the Senate.

The gun ban bill actually had a few Democrats who voted against it. 3 against, one absent. Every other gun bill has had 100% of Democrats voting for it. This one pushed 3 too far.

Virginians need to be in touch with their State Senators now to let them know where they need to stand. It's possible this bill does not make it out of Senate Committee, but I wouldn't count on that. We need two Senators to break from party line votes against this kind of lunacy. Just two more Senators to kill it (this year).

I feel for you bikerdoc and other Virginians.

A ban on mags over twelve rounds would put me back a pretty penny.
Bastards say, "Oh we don't want to confiscate any of your firearms." Then thats the first thing they go after. Yeah, how is demanding they be turned in different from confiscation?

I'll send some $ to VCDL.
