I have a very nice (98%)Virginian Dragoon in a 357 magnum. It is fixed sight and SS. It has a 5in bbl. It is the Deputy model.
My question is, do any of my fellow gunners have this model, and what do they think of it. I love mine. Built like a tank. I'd stack it up against a Ruger SAA any day of the week. Very sweet trigger also.

Shoot a pair of .44 magnum ones, one stainless and one carbon steel. Very high quality, many believe better than a Ruger, they were substantially more expensive (by nearly 50%) than a Ruger when sold side-by-side new. Manufactured completely in Virginia (not to be confused with the earlier Interarms imported "Virginian", which was made in Switzerland). These are becoming a bit collectable, but have not yet seen the price increases to insane levels associated with "widely collectable". They are a very good investment either as a shooter or as a safe queen.

This is pretty much the standard article that Dragoon owners send to others to explain them. It's well written and researched:

This is an extremely high quality "nearly custom" handgun that is suitable for heavy duty use. .44 Mag is the most common caliber, with .357 being much less common (the frame is really oversized for a .357). .45 Colt is fairly common as well.

Your fixed sight .357 is fairly rare, and is probably of interest to a serious Dragon collector. Very few were made in comparison to the adjustable sight versions. They were just "a bit too big" to attract the cowboy-enthusiast, so lost market share to other replicas with a size closer to a Colt SAA. The large frame of the Dragoon was better suited to adjustable sight magnums used for hunting.

Enjoy with pride. It's a 100% pedigree piece.

Willie thanks for the link on the history of the VA Dragoons. At one time I lived close to the VA factory but could never afford one.

I have a 6" SS Dragoon in .44 mag, and I'd like to get an affordable nylon holster to protect it with, like a Uncle Mike's. Not to wear, just something to keep the big cannon in for storage and range trips, etc.

It's much larger than my Uberti Cattleman SAA clone, and the UM#3 holster for that gun isn't even close. Does anybody know what size Uncle Mike holster I'd need for this hogleg? Please don't tell me to just get a zippered pouch or bag, I'm specifically asking about UM nylon holsters, I think they're called Sidekicks.

Large-framed single action revolver, 6" barrel. I'm sure somebody out there has one of these and an UM holster for it.

I had one of their .44 Magnums back in the 70s. It was a great gun, but I was young and needed money for other things. Agree with the statement that they are built like a tank.
