I'll be doing some hiking with friends in RMNP and hanging round the Longmont area with relatives at the end of July. I plan to either bring my G20 (15 rd mags although I have read that non-residents are exempt from the magazine limits) or my .454 Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan. There is also a chance I may be returning with some family guns on my C&R.

Anything unusual on the state side I need to worry about? Some quick research indicates that open carry is legal outside of Denver County and that loaded car carry is fine for handguns but not long arms. Are these correct?

Anything else out of the ordinary?

Mike

I think you've got most of it. Open carry is legal except in a (very) few localities, and the National Parks follow the state laws of the state they're located in, except for "facilities" which will be clearly marked. You may get a few stares and pointed fingers, but you're legal. Your 15 round mags are OK, the limit is set at 15, and to my (limited) knowledge there aren't any law officers that even check. And lastly, your car carry information is correct. Have a nice trip, even if it is to see relatives!

I live in Longmont, you will be just fine. I see people open carrying everyday. Your totally fine with a loaded pistol in your car too.

I may be vacationing in Colorado this year - following in the footsteps of a vacation trip I took with my folks when I was a tyke; Denver, Manitou Springs, Garden of the Gods, etc. Probably visit some former neighbors who retired to Colorado Springs as well.

I'm a TX resident with a TX concealed carry license, and though I know TX and CO have reciprocity in place, I was wondering if there are any "gotcha" provisions in the concealed carry laws there? For example, TX has a requirement that you notify a peace office who asks you for ID (as in a traffic stop) when you're carrying and prohibits carry when intoxicated (duh!), when attending most sporting events, when in an establishment that derives 51% of its revenue by sale of liquor for on-premesis consumption, etc. Anything similar in CO? (I don't plan to open carry.)

(I hope "intoxication" doesn't include a whiff of second hand dope smoke by a stoner I pass on the sidewalk. ;) )

No 51% law here. The word I get is that the BAL level used for operation of a motor vehicle is the standard, that's what I live by but you better research that for yourself. No required notification. Best bet is look at some of the websites available.

You can still carry more than 15 round mags as long as you owned them prior to the ban. The police have determined this is unenforceable as the mags are grandfathered, but there is no date on mags, so how do you know?
