Voiding pistol warranties

Today I called the manufacturer of one of my pistols with a semi-technical question which he fully answered. Well, one thing led to another and we chatted about reloading and he firmly made me fully aware that using reloaded ammo in the pistol would void my warranty. Sort of "toung-in-cheek" I asked if he had to say that to keep the Corporate Attorneys happy. He just repeated, "shoot reloads and there goes your life-time warranty". I said, "well that must eliminate about 90% of your warranty work". Then we discussed the weather!
Did you, or anyone you know, ever lose their "warranty privileges"by shooting reloads?

If your pistol went kB! because you were using reloads, I suppose you could always lie about it and say it was a factory load. Personally I was raised in such a way to prevent that kind of terpitude, so I wouldn't use reloads. Why risk it?

You'd be surprised as to how many people reload. Numbers are very low compared to the number of people that own guns.

If you read your owners manual, you will find that most (if not all) manufacturres stipulate that reloads void your warranty

Generally the warranty will only be voided to the extent that the damage could be attributed to the reloads. In a KB situation, I don't think you have much of a choice about lying as to whether reloads were used.

That statement safeguards their right to try to refuse to honor the warranty if they think the gun was abused. But, the legal requirement of PROVING the required service repair was actually due to reloads would fall on the gun maker. Unless the gun blew apart or showed bulging in the barrel, they are probably going to have hard time proving you operated the gun in a manner that caused the need for the repair.

I saw one suit against my former employer, when some idiot blew up a SIG using reloads. High primer was the best guess, but, since we were adding electronics, and nobody came after me, the designer of same, I guess it all worked out.

As for me, the last time I bought factory ammo, .22 aside, was when I got my .40, 'cause I can't get a new weapon and not fire it!

I haven't, to date, had to use any factory repair services, but, if something fell off, I'd expect them to honor it.

Of course, if I blew it up due to a reloading error, I'd be unlikely to confirm to the world that I'm and idiot...
