This is my pet peeve, but now the national media is spewing the word clip all over the place. Now we have no chance to get the nomenclature corrected.

Heck, if our own shooters don't know that it's "muzzle brake" and not "muzzle break" or that "varmint" has an N in it, how are we ever teach the rest of the world the difference between a magazine and a clip?

You know, that thought occurred to me, "now the guys on the boards will be hysterical about that stupid it's-not-a-clip thing..."

I think of it as rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

But it did make me smile...

You "It's Not a Clip" nazis are off base. Anything that holds cartridges is a clip.

Garands use En Bloc clips, Many rifles use stripper clips, some rifles used fixed magazine clips, and others use detachable box magazine clips. Getting upset over the use of clip is like getting upset when people say mag or magazine instead of detachable box magazine clip.

Oh and check out what Remington and Marlin have to say about it

Remington's clips

Marlin's clips

Seriously, this is a major weinie issue, and the mag-nazis are wrong.

Would that the worst thing about this issue WAS some incorrect nomenclature.

The sad part about that is that even manufacturers have had to lower themselves to using "clip" as part of their nomenclature, so as to not isolate their buyers who no longer know the difference. I've been seeing this become more common in recent years. Gravitating to the lowest common denominator is nothing new, it's just sad to see it become an expected norm.

Worse than that, this morning I was watching the news, and the brain-dead reporter was talking to a guy at a gun store about how evil 9 mm pistols are. First he talked about how easy it was to put new clips into the gun, then, as I was telling my wife they are magazines not clips, he says, "So with a fresh clip in the pistol and one in the magazine, you have 14 bullets.." I did not hear anything after that as my brain shut down from so much cognitive dissonance.
From what he said, I gathered he thought the chamber was the magazine.
And this is where most American's get their information to form beliefs. Friends, we are in deep do do.

Don't bother about the murdered, just start knit picking the definition of magazine/clip.
Good topic AirPower. :fire:

Dr., stop listening to people in gun stores.

No El, it was the reporter who said that; although, the guy in the gun store did not correct him (at least not on camera when he said it). I have to assume that the gun store guy either corrected the reporter off camera, or just chuckled and shook his head. I have to assume that, so that I can sleep tonight:evil:

It gets better. Babe on NPR this morning kept referring to an "automatic clip." I'm looking for some HiPower mags, I'm going to ask the guy at CDNN if he has any of those newfangled automatic clips.

CNN reports the shooter was armed with a 9MM and 22MM. Early reports claimed the shooter had to have been armed with an automatic weapon. CNN later reported that the 9MM was an automatic weapon.

not wanting to put this tragedy out of mind, but I simply can't watch/listen to the news anymore.
