[editorial by Hincker re: double murder on the loose at VT campus late 2006]

...
The writer would have us believe that a university campus, with tens of thousands of young people, is safer with everyone packing heat. Imagine the continual fear of students in that scenario. We've seen that fear here, and we don't want to see it again.
...
Guns don't belong in classrooms. They never will. Virginia Tech has a very sound policy preventing same.

[re: bill that would have given college students and employees the right to carry handguns on campus]

Virginia Tech spokesman Larry Hincker was happy to hear the bill was defeated. "I'm sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly's actions because this will help parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus."

[re: Hincker defending campus policy]

"I think it's fair to say that we believe guns don't belong in the classroom," Hincker said. "In an academic environment, we believe you should be free from fear."
...
"We think we have the right to adhere to and enforce that policy because, in the end, we think it's a common-sense policy for the protection of students, staff and faculty as well as guests and visitors," Hincker said.

Please see the thread I just posted.

In 2006 Virginia Tech lobbied against a bill that would have allowed CWP holders to carry on campus. It helped to defeat that bill. Larry Hincker celebrated that defeat:

Your thread is missing the other choice quotes. It's really sickening. [The shooting and most unversities' policies, that is.]

Yeah, how's that working out for you?

As far as emailing him with his quotes, he knows what he said and all the good that came from it. Throwing them in his face may be salt in the wounds right now.

I actually don't think he is able to make the logical connection between what he said and the good that came from it, but he'll be getting so many emails today that it's probably irrelevant.

Or maybe he'll come after everyone for slander or something.

I'm no lawyer, but I don't htink you can sue for slander if people are just reminding you of what you said....

My first reaction to this was "Well, obviously no guns are allowed on that campus." I was furious. If they're not going to provide proper protection for those students and faculty, at least they could allow them to protect themselves. I sure as heck feel a lot safer when I have a wheelgun within arms length.

Ohio University had a guy go into the library with a shotgun.. I can't remember the exact details... I believe he was looking for a certain person. A good friend of mine was in the room the guy walked in. And that guy was escorted out with Athens Police Dept. showed up... 45 minutes later. 45 minutes?!?!?! I'm glad I wasn't in the room...

I'm going to the Ohio State house tomorrow with a group of students from the school I work at. I may have to ask my Sen. and Rep. what they're doing to ensure nothing like this happens. The only thing to do would be to have several armed guards in each building. OR, allow CCW permit holders to carry on campus.
