I have a sweet gray finished Czechpoint VZ-58,( ground bayo mt), and 10 mags when they first came out. kinda pricy...2008.

Then in 2009 I got an ORF VZ 58 reciever on a group buy to go with the 2 parts kits with dummy recievers cheap. One is folding. They even came with the barrels back then. Never did do anything with them.Been in my closet. I notice asking $300 per kits now days on GB. I should have bought more...

nothing beats the original gray finish:cool:, and you must have a low serial #. got my gray finish czusa from jgsales in 09. as for the parts kit, lucky i got one for about $160 back in 09 w/side folder.

I bought one from J&G.
Fit and finish is as good as any, bore is bright and no pits.
Got 3 extra mags for $10 each.
Shoots accurate and reliable. NOT one malfunction in 300 shots fired.
Only downside is that the forearm gets hot quick.
I am happy with this and would advise someone looking for a accurate, reliable and lightwieght rifle to get one.
Just my $.02.

wondering about the bore, hows the lands and grooves? is it strong high and deep? the lands and grooves on mine were very shallow and they had some really bad scaring on them, through out the whole barrel. is the bore diameter still .308?

For the VZ experts, how much tension should be on the mag release? Without a mag, mine feels loose. It hasn't affected the little shooting that I have done yet though.

My mag release is pushed against the stop when absent a mag; sounds like your spring is a bit played out. If it's still retaining the mag, I wouldn't think function could be affected. A replacement is probably the best idea (you could maybe try bending it back to its original shape, but that's a temporary solution as the spring is already fatigued). Czechpoint should have a replacement, just save up for <200$ of other stuff, though, to maximize the bang-for-your-buck on the shipping.
