I just bought a W German Sig P220 (Serial: G238xxx). The decocker works differently than other Sigs that I've handled. It drops the hammer on the downstroke of the decocker lever rather than riding it home. Is this normal?

IMO, yes. I've had different SIG models that worked both ways. Just be sure the hammer is falling to the intercept notch (backed slightly away from the slide), not all the way forward. As a safety check to be certain, point the unloaded gun at the ceiling, cock the hammer, put a pencil (eraser end down and being certain it is centered) in the barrel, and decock with the lever. The pencil should not move. If it jumps or tries to fly out of the barrel, that means the hammer struck the firing pin and the gun needs to be repaired. Most likely it will not.

Thanks for the feedback. I was just surprised when I first activated the decocker. Its so different feeling than other Sigs.

Sounds quite normal to me. By the way I'm pretty sure your Sig was made in Exeter NH. At that time the only parts still coming from Germany were the slides and barrels. Your pistol was made around 93 or 94 I would guess. If you have the original grips they have a date code stamped them.
