MORE PUBLIC HEARINGS SCHEDULED
A public hearing was conducted by the House Judiciary Committee on 29 January to take testimony on House Bills 2310 and 2473. HB 2310 would clarify rules for a victim of domestic abuse to obtain a concealed pistol license (CPL). A representative of a domestic violence support group opposed the bill. It appeared her opposition was based primarily on the radical feminist philosophy that “guns are men things, guns are bad.†Testimony was offered in support of HB 2473, prohibiting law enforcement officers subject to domestic violence court action from carrying a firearm in a courthouse. Our neutral position was presented.
Two new gun bills have been filed this week, and there’s one more I missed last week. Senator Mark Doumit (D-19) introduced SB 6284, a bill that would eliminate hunting license fees for those individuals under age 18. Representative John Lovick (D-44) introduced HB 2701, the House counterpart to SB 6389 that would create underlying state law for the FAA firearms restricted areas at airports. And Representative Ruth Kagi (D-32) introduced SB 2791, a bill that broadens and strengthens the courts’ ability to confiscate firearms from individuals involved in a domestic dispute.
