Legislative Update from Olympia 30 January 2004

NEW BILLS FILED

DISTRICT FINDER AND LAWMAKING PROCESS

MARATHON GUN BILL HEARING TUESDAY EVENING

Representative John Lovick (D-44) introduced HB 3128, adding the Legislative Building (state Capitol Building) to those places where the possession of firearms is prohibited, even by CPL holders. I was told that lock-boxes would be provided for firearms possessed by CPL holders, but the bill contains no such provision.(Possession of firearms ANYWHERE on the Capitol Campus is already prohibited by Washington Administrative Code 236-12-470.)

The Legislative web site has a number of useful tools. One is a link to find out in which district you live. Go to http://www.leg.wa.gov <http://www.leg.wa.gov/>, then scroll down to “Find out who represents you district finder.†Click and when the new screen appears, fill in the blanks. Remember, you must enter your residential address, not a work address or P. O. box. If you missed the mini-tutorial I provided last week about how a bill moves through the process, go to the same web
site above, click on “Bill info,†then click on “How a bill becomes a law.†All is revealed!

House Judiciary Committee chair Pat Lantz (D-26) has scheduled a public hearing on six gun related bills on Tuesday evening, 3 February, in House Hearing Room “B.†The bills are HB 2493, HB 2600, HB 2671, HB 2701, HB 2791 and HB 3128. Additional information is provided below.
