WA State Patrol SWAT gear stolen by criminals

Happens all over the nation fairly frequently.
Often it is an embarassment to the LEO agency and they deal with it internaly, not leaking it to the media.

However you can find dozens of similar stories within the last few years if you look.
Full auto police weapons, ususaly AR variants or MP5s stolen from LEO.
Even the feds have reported it a few times.
An entire team's gear has been reported stolen before, including guns, body armor and other attire.

It however is not entirely thier fault. To be ready to respond to a situation rapidly it has to be ready to go and as a result be more vulnerable to theft. If they lock it all up in a building it will never make it to most active scenes in time.

Either you are joking ( I hope) or you dont understand SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics). They conduct dynamic entries and use the flashbangs to temporarily stun suspects. Do you think most criminals hide in well lit areas during daylight hours? Cummon now.

I wasn't joking, but I did not read carefully enough, I was reading as though it was a regular officer, not a member of the SWAT team.

NP. I was not sure where you were goin and I do not know the officer in question, but I do know a few SWAT team members from a couple departments and they keep all kinds of cool toys at the ready, because they could be on patrol or whatnot and get called out.

I don't know what the solution is because the greater the security, generally, the slower the response. I once worked at a place where I was a "mobile armory," which amounted to nothing more than carrying service weapons locked in a patrol car with me. The good stuff was kept in the armory. Not very fast in an emergency. This, of course was a lifetime ago.

having it in the patrol car is one thing... taking said patrol car home is something else.

Not that it applies to this situation, but...

Why should responders not have the ability to do so quickly if that is their role? For most it is not their role, granted, but for those whose it is, and I'm not talking just about members of tactical units, far from it - why hinder their ability to do the job expected of them?
