Is there any significant difference in the plastic fouling that wads leave in choke tubes, based on the brand and type of ammo used? Also, is there any difference in fouling with the various wads used for reloading?

These questions are only for 1-1/8 oz target/game loads?

With properly fitted (correct) tubes there should be no problem. I had a barrel once with an aftermarket machining and tube that got ruined by plastic/shot getting under the skirt of the tube. My other guns, Beretta, Rem, Brown in have survived many thousands of rounds with tubes of at least six makers.

Clay buster wads leave the most residue. A lot of residue with some loads. Winchester wads the least. I do not shoot enough factory ammo to know. At the price difference in the wads I shoot the Claybuster and clean the gun more often.

I have shot hundreds of thousands of Claybuster wads over the years. Even if it gets a little buildup, a bronze brush in a cordless drill and 5 seconds back and forth and it is clean as a whistle.
Residue can happen with any size payload, it isn't limited to only 1-1/8oz.

CBer at one time had a bad rep for fouling, but that's long since past. I've probably used over 60,000 and haven't had a problem. It's all anyone at my club uses with no complaints.
