Waiting periods, etc in different States

(1) Is there a waiting period to purchase? Is it for everyone? How long is it?

Nevada laws are pretty good, but then there are Clark County and Las Vegas City laws on top of them. Here you get a "blue card" when you buy a gun that has all the gun info on it. If you have a blue card, no wait. If not and you're in Vegas you must wait 3 days. This on your first gun only, after that there's no wait. There's also no NICS check for CCW holders, so you pay and take the gun(s) with you. Vegas also has handgun registration.

(2) Is there an open carry law in your state? Is it commonly practiced?

It is legal here but I've never seen it done in Vegas, nor would I care to. Why would you when you can get a CCW? More rural parts of Nevada may have lots of open carry but around here it isn't done.

(3) What is the general political climate when related to firearms (including shooting on your own land, hunting, etc)?

Nevada is pro-gun, and I'd say Clark County is pro-gun, but they have enough delays and run-around built in to the CCW process to make you think someone is making it as tough as they can on you.

More and more liberals are moving here, and now there's more registered Dems than Republicans. I expect as time goes by they'll try to make the gun laws tougher at the state level.

CCW permits shall issue, CCW holders do not have to do a NICS check.

No waiting period for anything to buy.

Open carry OK and you do see it sometimes in town. Out in the mountains it's pretty common.

Guns in vehicle, no requirement to be cased or unloaded, can't be concealed on your person tho unless you have a CCW. I usually leave my pistol loaded in a holster on the front seat, and a loaded Winchester carbine behind or along the front edge of the front seat.

Anyone can buy ammo or reloading components.

Class 3 friendly.

General climate is hunting and gun oriented. The city of Cody promotes celebrity shootoffs, there's a turkey shoot downtown every Thanksgiving with 22's and CB caps with a big straw bale backstop, and other gun events are not uncommon in the state.

The police do not have a cow if you have a gun during a traffic stop, but they like to hold on to it while doing the paperwork. I got a speeding ticket 5 years ago, I told the HP officer that I had a pistol on the seat, he asked to hold on to it while he did the paperwork, I handed him the smith 357 in a holster which he stuck under his arm, when he was done he handed it back still loaded, and we talked for a few minutes about hunting, trucks, etc.

1) No waiting period, but CCW holders still have to go through the Federal background check, I believe, as apparentely the carry permit is to easy to get to satisfy the Feds (no training requirement, shall-issue.. If you can pass a background check, you can get a carry permit). Permit holders may be exempt from the state background check, I'm not sure.

2) This is tricky. Technically, open carry is legal everywhere except in a city of the first class, the only one in the state is Philadelphia. However, no law says open carry is otherwise legal, so, depending on the local PD, you can be charged with disturbing the peace or something along those lines, so it isn't really a good idea unless you are in a rural area.

3) The state is generally pro-gun, and hunting is more than common, but the government of Philadelphia is very anti-gun. Luckily, the state does not allow counties/cities/towns/boroughs/townships to make their own gun laws.
