Decided to rough out a "prototype" stand for my Uberti 1847 Walker. It was my Dad's from the early 70's; he sent it to me in the early 80's when I told him I'd picked up a used Colt Navy replica.

I've got some walnut and cherry kickin' around, but I wanted to make my oops-es on less meaningful wood, so I bought a spruce 1x4 at Home Depot. It came out ok! Might put a finish of some kind on it & keep it around.

I didn't want a block sticking up out of the base, so I carved a recess for a butt stop. It had been a loooong time since I got the carving tools out! They definitely need a little TLC.

It only took a few hours. Some were before a nap, some after!

I have a suggestion. The piece that I point out, make it so it's attached to the main body by two or more pegs, and make corresponding peg holes for the height for your walker, and another for your navy replica. That way ,you have two in one! I'll add a drawing later today to better demonstrate what I mean. Walker on Stand 1~2.jpg

That's a great idea, Gob! Like a cribbage board for black powder wheel guns!

When I make one out of "real" wood, I'll add some felt to the barrel cradle and maybe some cork or rubber to the bottom of the base. Non-skid would help for using it as a loading stand.

Some folks for more portability will hinge the up right to the base. In use the guns weight keeps pressure on the hinge keeping the upright upright.
I dovetail the one thats a permanent part of the range kit.
