Walker bullet options

I know that there are functional bullet molds for the Picket bullets out there somewhere, but are there any heavier rounds suitable for use in a Colt Walker (Uberti)? I enjoy shooting mine but would like the option to keep it loaded with something other than 140 gr roundball.

Are there any conventional bullets you can use? I suppose you could cast a 250gr flatnose or SWC in pure lead, but I don't know about the shrinkage of pure lead vs. an alloy and I would prefer to buy rather than cast my own for now. I assume that since you can shoot cowboy ammunition with a conversion cylinder, that a mild lead alloy bullet in .452-.453 would work with a felt wad to seal against cross-fire. Anyone use a similar setup before?

Is there going to be a problem with internal pressures within the cylinder or damage to the forcing cone/frame as the bullet weight increases?

Maybe I should just buck & ball it instead and call it good, but I would enjoy hearing your experiences.

Dixie gun works have picket molds. One of the Walker club members tried them. Best thing to do though is to make up some handles as they come without them.

I have some "Hammerhead" bullets in 44cal from, dare I say it...................................................................................................................Bigiron.

Haven't had a chance to try them yet in my 3rd Model, but will when it cools down a little. Say below 95!!!!!!

Years ago we used to use the 200 grain lead SWC bullets for the 45 ACP in Colt and Remington revolvers. Sometimes the cylinder would have to be reamed to accept the .452 diameter but that also provide a ledge against which the bullet would sit.

I remember many of the feloows shooting these in competition, before Val Forgett started bringing in the imports.

I haven't tried it lately but it should still work.
