They can be loaded with anywhere from about 30 - 55 grains of powder and usually with either a .454 or .457 round ball. 40 - 50 grain powder loads are the most common.
Needed accessories in addition to percussion caps and powder would include a Walker/Dragoon nipple wrench, powder measure, powder flask and nipple pick.
Certain brass cartridge cases can serve as a powder measure, a mustard squeeze container or similar can serve as a powder flask, and a piece of guitar/piano wire or a sewing needle can serve as a nipple pick.
Other optional accessories include wool wads or vegetable fiber wads, a black powder solvent, a lubricant like Bore Butter (Ballistol or mineral oil or Crisco also works) and anti-seize or breech plug grease for the nipple threads.
