Ok, I've made a decision. I can't lay awake at night anymore dreaming about my very own horse pistol anymore. It's time to be a man and confront it. This leads me to an important question: Which one?

I've found two kits (I strongly prefer the kit), one from Uberti and one is the Dixie brand. Some people adore Uberti, and some hate them. I haven't heard a word about Dixie's brand. If there's another maker, I'd like to know about them. What say you, men?

And, on further reflection, I stuck this in the wrong forum... Duhrrr. Would somebody mind moving it for me?

Hey I have a Uberti Brand Walker and it serves me well. Good pick on BP revolvers. Uberti Makes it good perfectly strait made well blued well. I know becasue I have two of them, there great. I would recommend staying with Uberti as there extra parts are readily availible. I have never held dixie's nor any other of there models so I cant say for sure. I do know that Uberties arnt exact replicas of the originalls part wise. Maybe dixie's is an exact replica of the original becasue I know they like to get it right. I would say look which one has a bigger price tag.

Get the Uberti. It will probably be perfectly timed and altogether excellent like the one we have. We've had excellent luck with the kit and a completed Uberti Walker. The Dixie Walker/Kit are made by Palmetto Arms Company. If Palmetto replicas werent so expensive, they would make good burglar bait. You could leave them out in plain sight so the gonifs would make off with them and overlook the good stuff. Palmetto should be confined to the lowest epicycle of Hell and be issued a shovel.

Well, that's a pretty clear recommendation. The difference in price isn't but $30, and it sounds like a serious difference in quality. I'm not after a bullseye gun. Frankly, it's the feel and the sight and the smell I like. I'm not even that particular about hitting anything, although it would be a nice bonus. But, I want the experience for a good long time to come, so I'm going after quality.

Now, here's the really important question: Who makes a good concealment rig? :)

Well, if I was running the show, I wouldn't fall for mec's recommendation for lenience on Palmetto! They would run a perpetual gauntlet of their cheated customers and be beaten with their products, since even the supernatural probably couldn't make the guns function well enough to make the better idea of a perpetual firing squad work.

I know at one time Euroarms made a lot of the guns marketed by DGW under the "Dixie" name but I have no information about the current products. I certainly wouldn't buy anything without knowing who the actual manufacturer was. There have been/ are quality swings in all the Italian manufacturers with Uberti and Pietta being the two best currently, even though I bought a Euroarms rifle within the year which is as high a quality firearm as any could ever be.

Picked up an Uberti Walker kit from DGW a month or so ago. My second BP revolver. I wanted to try my hand at a kit and haven't heard much except good about Uberti. Logged a bunch of hours finishing it, but I'm kinda particular and had never done anything quite like this. I'm real happy with the result and quality of the kit. There's nothing quite like shooting the Walker to put a big SE grin on your face. Serious personal artillery!

I checked out a EuroArms Mississippi Rifle and Springfield Rifled musket for Guns Magazine this summer. Both came from Dixie and were very well done They have bought out Armi San Paulo revolver machinery and are making the Rogers and Spencer and some other revolvers. They do not seem to have any worthwhile distribution in the United States though. I have a R&S on back order from dixie but they had none in stock. People who own those praise them highly and it seems that they are popular in Europe. The R&S web page lists a lot of dealers over there but non on this side of the Atlantic.
