Yesterday at the range, someone saw that I was shooting 9mm reloads and asked me how much it cost to make them. When I told him that my cost is about .13/round, he said that he bought some 9mm recently at Walmart and paid $14.99/100. Not 50, but 100. I haven't bought or priced factory ammo recently so I don't really know what it goes for now, but that sounded awfully low. Could it actually be true?

I haven't seen ammo prices that low in ages... The lowest 100 round packs I have seen here in Wichita for 9mm was $27 or so but that's when they have it and 45ACP is running about $49/100

I think he must have been mistaken. When Wal-mart has it Brass-Maxx is $22.49/100, Federal is $24.99/100 and Winchester is $25.99/100. The 50 round boxes are running around $14-$15.

Even the Tulammo steel case stuff sells for around $10 a box of 50, so I think he mistaken on price. LM

Depends on when he purchased it. But now the prices are higher than that around here. WM prices do vary by store as I have checked the shelf stickers and compared with what is posted here. Usually higher by .40-$3.00 on average.

I haven't seen 9mm at $.15 per round since......ever. The cheapest I EVER paid was $.16 per round and that was many years ago on sale at a local store. I have only been shooting 9mm for about 15 years so it could have been lower at some point.

Back around 2004-2005, the first time I ever bought 9mm, I was getting it for $0.15/rnd at Wal-Mart. About $7.50/box. A year or two later it went up to $9/box and it's been going up ever since.

That guy didn't know what he was talking about or it was marked wrong at the store.

A couple years ago Walmart occasionally had sales on Federal 9mm FMJ, 100 for $20. Haven't seen anything like it today.

Perhaps it was a 100 round box mis-priced as a 50 round box. Mistakes do happen.
This!

Back when I was in college, I walked to the local Academy to pick up a box of 30-30's for deer season. When I got to the register I was "greeted" by a surly middle aged woman with an "Assistant Manager" nametag. She rang up the 20 round box of Federals and told me the price was 67 cents.

I tried to tell her that the price had to be wrong, but she must have thought I was complaining because she cut me off in a rude manner and said. "All items are priced as marked. NO exceptions!"

I was a polite young man and had been raised not to argue with my elders, so I did what I felt was right.

I went back and got the other six boxes that were on the shelf.

140 rounds of 150 grain Federal Flat Points for less than five bucks! :D
