Walmart Ammo Prices

Yeah, after seeing how none of the .22 rimfire ammo is getting discounted, I don't think Walmart is getting out of completely dropping ammo sales. They'll just stock the case with .22, shotgun ammo, and maybe some hunting rifle ammo in stuff like .30-30, .45-70, probably a lot of muzzleloading stuff will be coming too.

I have to believe that Walmart makes a lot more money selling .22 ammo than they do any other caliber they have outside of 9mm.
Actually, at our store Rem. Thunderbolt .22's are on clearance for $15 of the 555 rd. box. Not a fire sale, but good price. We are taking it off mod, not all stores may be doing so.

I just picked up two Federal 100 packs of aluminum 45 ACP at $15 each, or 15 cents a round. No rifle ammunition left and not much 9mm to be seen.

The guy with the key didn't seemed convinced that Wal-mart ammunition was preferred by psychopaths, but wasn't consulted.

After checking Midway and Cheaper than dirt UMC 38 spl FMJ mega packs priced at $90/250 ct or $175/ 500 ct., I picked up the last three 50 ct boxes of UMC for $9/each and the last five Federal Champion 158 grain RN 38 spl.also $9 each. Shouldn't have spent the money I have recently but I knew I'd be kicking myself paying two-three times as much later.

In total between the two Walmarts near me, there was no 9mm, one box of .40 for $13, one box of .45ACP for $15, two boxes of .357 SIG for $15 each, three boxes of .25ACP for $11 each, about fifteen boxes of .32ACP for $13 each, and three 25rd boxes of .45LC for $13 each. I bought the three boxes of .25ACP and two boxes of .32ACP. Rifle ammo was in stock and not discounted.

I can get the .32 for about the same base price online, but it usually costs a little more for shipping. .25 was a good buy as I usually can’t find it for less than $13 and then I have to pay shipping on top of it. I am still accumulating brass for .25 and .32 for reloading. I reload for the other more common calibers so even at the clearance prices for the pistol rounds, I’m still better off reloading as it can do it for a few bucks cheaper.

For me, it was the fact that I could get a variety of ammo for much lower or at online prices without having to buy each caliber in bulk or wait for a rebate that may or may not come.

I went to my local WW yesterday in hopes of cleaning up on ammo. The prices are still as high as in my last venture there. Cadillac, MI. definately has NO SALE PRICES on ammo.

Go back in a couple days. When I went to my local store I got there right when they were putting new price stickers on.

Stopped at Walmart where I bought ammo twice since announcement, all that was left was 3 boxes of .45Colt and two boxes of .40 S&W (SD ammo) on sale but not what I was looking for.

Didn't have to give a dime to Walmart today because Cal-Ranch had 10% off everything in the store this afternoon.

Bought 2 guns, a Yeti cooler, a mongo trailer hitch, 5 extended Mag Pro Glock mags for my SBRs, web gear, and more than 4,000 rounds of ammo (.22lr at 4-5 cents/rd, 9mm at a dime a round).

I love Cal-Ranch, everything I could possibly need on my ranch under one roof.

The superstore near here looks like Old Mother Hubbard's cupboard. The only ammo I could use was .380 that they had priced at $7 for 50 FMJ. The .38 Special and .357 were gone. Thankfully, I reload for all three.

Still many boxes of the evil cartridge called ''308'' , and, ''7.62X51'' , AR10 cartridges.:p

Went to a WM here in Houston recently.
While I didn't perform a complete inventory analysis, it appeared that rifle hunting rounds, rimfire, and shotgun shells were available at ~normal~ prices.
Most all handgun ammo gone, save for a few boxes of 40 and (1) of 45. (Both were marked down significantly)
1 box of 25. 1 box of 32
6-8 boxes of 223/556 remaining, also marked down.

I am of the opinion that any move to reduce/eliminate their ammo sales, in itself, would not cause anyone who currently shops @ WM to decide to boycott them now. (Low risk of Consumer backlash)

Recent shooting in TX store didn't help matters any.
While perhaps a bit hard for members of a Gun forum to fully comprehend, it's quite likely there are more WM Customers that want WM to 'Do Something!' about 'getting rid of' guns / gun violence' than there are Customers who buy ammo/guns at their stores.

Online Ammo prices also make it hard for any 'brick and mortar' store to compete. (Low Margin)

So:
* Low risk of backlash/losing Customers.
* Makes it look like WM is 'doing something'.
* Involves one WM's 'low margin' offerings.

From a Business standpoint, it's not a very difficult decision. Some may even go so far as to say it was overdue.

The unfortunate part of all this will be for SOME* Consumers in 'low-density/rural' area's who have relied 100% on WM to keep them provided with ammo / etc. at ~reasonable~ prices.

*Folks that do not have internet, or those who simply refuse to learn how to use it for more than email. (The latter describes my Parents to a T)

Agreed. I don't believe that WM will experience any meaningful backlash or business loss as a result of the PC but otherwise meaningless policy change regarding handgun ammunition sales.
My own wife and daughters - are they going to boycott the main supplier of household stuff because I disagree with the elimination of 9mm ammo? No , they will not. I'm not even really trying to convince them to do so.
WalMart isn't Dick's.

* Makes it look like WM is 'doing something'.
Exactly. And it won't affect the bottom line to any measurable degree.

Before Walmart made this decision, you had the same people in the gun community bashing Walmart and stating they'd never shop there because of their decision to stop selling the AR15. Then you had idiots who were using Walmart to make political statements, seek attention, and for YouTube content. When people in the gun community and psychopaths shooting up their stores and customers started to bring the company bad press, I can't really blame them for this move.

I pretty much agree with your overall statement, except for that last part. It was a weenie thing to do.

But - back to topic , the two WM stores in my town did the final markdown in the wee hours of Friday morning. By mid afternoon the shelves were practically empty. I got the last 3 boxes of .38 sp and last 2 boxes of .32acp , approximately 60% discount. There will be nothing of value left to donate to Law Enforcement .

I bought a couple of boxes of WWB JSP .44 50 round boxes for $30 and a 200 round box of 5.56 WWB for $49 at my local Walmart.
Ok but not great.
Then a couple of days ago I stopped by a Walmart I don’t normally frequent because it was on the way home and my wife needed something.
I check the ammo case - jackpot!
100 round boxes of WWB 9mm - $9
The aforementioned .44 - $19
50 round box of Federal .45 - $13
50 round box Remington .38 - $9
50 round box Federal.357 - $13
100 round box of Federal .223 Varmint - $15
And some I can’t remember. A good haul.
