Walnuts in my primer hole

I love the way tumbling cleans up brass ESPECIALLY the primer pocket.
I use a small air compressor to dispense with the tumbling media and a scriber to deal with the flash hole problems.
I just LOVE my tumbler especially when dealing with older "empties".!

I use a Lee case length gauge and put some nuts on the threads to replace the cutting head to get any bits out of the primer hole. The sized cases will center up the punch perfectly and knock out any residue. This is pretty simple and quick and the task no longer drives me nuts any more.

After tumbling the lube off I use a Lee universal decapper in the first station.

Sorry for the late reply; an out of town trip had me captive for 3 weeks with no computer... I was about to become insane with crappy hotel cable!

So it seems that a finer grind of media should help with the walnuts in my flash hole problem... now, I just need to find a home for 39.5 more lbs of PetSmart walnut litter. I know! I'll feed it to the kids and tell them it's GrapeNuts cereal! Well, they need more roughage, but that rough of roughage may be detrimental. I guess I'll just use it all up and probe my flash holes for a while.

Thanks for the info on swage then trim, vs. trim then swage. Glad to know the order doesn't really matter.

Thanks, all!

I rarely see media in the flash hole since using the media/brass seperator tumbler. The brass sort of crashes into each other and loosen any stuck media if you turn it 10 or so times after all the media is removed.

Just my experience. :D

I used to care about that, but realized it makes zero difference in accuracy, or reliability of ignition, and this is with many many thousands down the pipe of both 9mm and 223.
Save yourself the time and effort, just take em out of the tumbler and enjoy the rest of the case prep process :/

Next time you're at the dentist, ask him/her for any old tools they aren't using anymore, works on my primer holes.
This is true, Ive gotten a couple of cool things from my dentist. Pretty sure they all think Im the "weird guy who wants our old tools" but oh well.. The best thing was a syringe with a really really fine point that I use to get just a small line of lube onto my slide.
