was wondering if anyone has documented the "life span/round count" of the Walther/Colt 1911 22lr. how many rounds have you gotten thru it and were they any issues, breakages, wear, replacements or is it still holding very strong so many rounds later?

i see a ton of very detailed posts of the gsg/sig's lifespan but, very little, if non of the Walther/Colt 1911.

i just bought one, from what i read the Walther is much better,im just not sure by how much

I can not prove it, but think to a large extent the life expectancy of .22's dependent to some extent on the power of the ammo used. One fellow that I know that has a high round count on his model 41 has been adding oil to get his gun to function with low velocity ammo and one can see peening all along the edges where the slide make contact on closing. Lately his trigger is not working right. He has put likely put an immense of amount ammo through his gun and it likely needs to be rebuilt at the factory and maybe even retired. I do have a buffer on my 41 and I am using the federal automatch that has just enough power to function my gun. Soon I will switch to CCI standard velocity that it likes and was supposed to have been designed to function in it.
I had the firing pin break in my ceiner .22 1911 conversion kit. perhaps 10k to 30k round through it. I forget.

The one i bought used the former owner said he ran CCI stingers in it. I run Winchester 555 bulk ammo in mine. And yes ammo does effect the life of any gun. I did have to get a new slide stop from Walther for the used one i bought. But anyway them Walther/Colt rail guns are a lot of fun.

did the previous owner ever say how many rounds he shot thru it? even a guess estimation on how many boxes he went thru added with yours, would be helpful. kinda get a general log of the guns lifespan as parts wear, break, ect

No he didn't. But i have a few thousand though both of mine. They have a life time warranty too. Don't be afraid to buy one. I have other Walther guns too. They all been reliable.

While I cannot say how many rounds a Walther / Colt 1911 will be able to withstand, I have shot over 110,000 rounds through a S&W 22A that I had bought for $125. The 22A had many parts failures that were repaired by S&W under warranty with the most serious issue a broken frame around 60,000 rounds.

By the time I retired that gun, I had spent considerably more on the ammo than for the S&W 22A and its replacement.

My Beretta Model 70S has had countless number of rounds through it, mostly CCI MiniMags, over the 40+ years I have owned it. Now having being made all out of steel and having been hard chrome plated, has no doubt helped it to obtain such a long and noteworthy lifespan among my .22 handguns! The same can be said for my all steel Ruger MK.II Model 512 as well!
