I found a Walther P1 in a pawn shop today, with what appears to be the original holster. They want $325 for it, is that a good deal? It seems to have all original markings.

Original Walther P38/P1 brand-new/mint condition - unfired and still in original package. Directly from the arsenal of the "Bundeswehr", caliber 9x19mm. The pistol is from material reserve and was never issued! Simply NEW! A must-have for contemporary collectors. EWB (Buying permit) necessary! If you have any questions contact us ...

I recently bought a Walther P-1 excatley like this for CHF 240.-- = USD 195.-- (very low price!). The weapon was packed in brown paper and sealed in a plastic bag.

Hope that helps.

Most of the shops and dealers have them for around $275 in Houston, after figuring overnight shipping and tranfer fees thats not to bad. They are not C&R so must go through a FFL dealer.

I would say thats the high end of average.but thats what I payed for mine local. got to inspect and shoot first,so IMHO well worth a premium.BTW 3-4" 25yards off hand w/wwwb 147 jhp and poa=poi

I got one last year from Dan's Sporting Goods in PA. New, never fired, sealed in a bag with holster, 3 mags, and instruction manual in German for $299.

""Wonder if they ship to the U.S? Decent prices once converted ... hate to see the shipping though.""

Just register and ask the seller, most Germans will speak at least some basic English. Maybe buy a cheap dictionary from Amazon.
My experience with buying thru Egun.de is that gunshops hate the extra hassle that comes with applying for an export license. They will therefore charge an extra EUR 30 or 40. It's cheaper to ask a private seller who is willing to do the extra work.
As for importing? Check with the ATF I guess. I have IMported guns into my own country before, all I can say that this went smooth and swift.

If you're into collector items (WW1 & 2 stuff) click 'Sammlerwaffen/-munition'.

$325 is a bit high even by the standards in my area (where prices generally run higher). Also I would have some doubts buying thru a pawn shop. P-1's are a fun gun designed for regular ammo, but their aluminum frames can get damaged shooting +P ammo regularly. I'm not sure you'd get a straight story re: how the previous owner used it. The mil-surp P-1s typically are sold with a holster, 2 magazines, an original issue cleaning kit, in an original box and may even include the manufacturers target sample. The P-1s were made for about 40 years with various improvements made over the years. Check out www.p38forum.com before buying for lots of good info. In the gallery section, Kyrie Ellis has a "Banner p-1" entry that will explain all the various markings you might find on a P-1, again interesting and informative.

I would not only look at the price when buying a P1. It should be an upgraded model that has the frame re enforcement and the beefed up slide. The frame re enforcement is easy to see, it's the little bolt through the frame, just behind the take down lever.

Many guns do not show holster wear but might have been shot a lot. So check also for wear on the rails.

How I know?

By the way, I shot the same 124gr MEN ammo through the P1 and the Uzi. That standard ammo was not bad for standard ammo.
