newbie walther p22 3.4"

I just got a walther p22 3.4" and have two questions:

1. Will dry firing damage this gun?

2. What type of ammo is best for this gun, (i.e. lead nose, hollow point, jacketed)

2b. Could someone explain all the types of ammo for a .22?

Thanks

Dry firing is always a bad thing to me. its just a No No to me. i know people do it, i know some do it alot, and i know some guns can handle it, but its just abuse to me. its not what the gun was designed for. just get a snap cap to be safe always.

My P22 LOVES CCI mini mags, i have been thru 2 P22s, the first was a peice of junk, sent it to walther and they sent me a new gun, said the old one was unfixable. the new one has yet to have any problems, but ihave only shot about 300 rounds thru it. all mini mags, and no problems so far. Bottom line with 22 auto pistols, most can be rather picky so be safe and dont shoot junk thru them. BUT the only exception was a Colt Target 22 i used to have, you could shoot ANYTHING thru it. It would shoot that cheap lead bulk ammo all day long with no malfunctions.

I have a 3.4" Walther P22 that I bought used, so can't tell you how many rounds have been fired.

I have put around 900 rounds thru mine, all from two Federal 550 round bulk-packs (purchased at Wal-Mart). These have a copper washed "dimple" (too shallow to be called "hollow" IMO) point bullet and have fed, fired, and ejected just fine.

Good luck.

Do not dry fire rim fire guns. You will end up dimpling the reciever. Think about it....the pin is fireing on a place where there is metal behind it. Not down the bore like a centerfire. You could damage a pin on lesser quality guns.

I know Darrin's p22 has become picky on its ammo. Ive seen it FTF a few times and one or two FTE's when we've been out. All ammo related usualy....But he can say which brands, Id likely get them mixed up

Amazingly, with one exception, mine has been perfect...

It was a shock to realize that my P22 didn't like Stingers. (Of all things!) It likes Velocitors, but most of all I think it likes Yellow Jackets and Mini Mags. (Gotta to have something to do with those truncated bullets.) I've often wondered if the truncated, flat nosed Mini Mags are "better" for a .22LR. Seems like there would be good penetration to me. What do you guys think? In addition, shooting Yellow Jackets always brings a smile to my face. With each pull of the trigger, I'm rewarded with a "star-burst" as the bullet leaves the barrel!
Count me in the group that doesn't "dry-fire" anything which is chambered for rim-fire.
(SHHHhhhhh....A new P22 is one of the things I bought my wife for our 25th anniversary! :) Now I've got to wrap all these things that I've been collecting. I think wrapping gifts is VERY difficult. (No joke!)
