Walther P22 - Recommendations

The Walther P-22 is the worst gun I have ever owned. I don't think it ever fed two mags consecutively without a failure. That was even after a warranty service and feeding it the ammo it liked (CCI Mini Mags).

I am not the only one to have problems with this gun. Many THR member have posted very negative reviews.

I would avoid this pistol. I sold mine for a loss and don't regret doing it.

I highly recommend the Browning Buckmark Pistol. It is a fantastic gun that puts the Walther to shame in every category. The Buckmark is a large pistol that may not fit your sons hand though....

Exact same here.

I had one and hated it because it was the most unreliable gun I have ever shot. I sold mine for a loss also, honestly I do regret selling mine, I should have destroyed it to save someone else the trouble. I also agree about the Buckmark, but like he said it might not fit him to well.

I read so many bad things about the p22,,, before buying it.
Im in my 30's, own other HGs and I shoot it. Bought to introduce the wife and child. Im now thinking they will need to wait until I get a pretty pink one for them. This one is mine HAHA
I love it! Its a tiny piece of true artwork.

I read everything I could find about the HG before spending the $$.(PS. THR was one of the few with both positives and negitives / didnt try to sell me anything)
If you folow the hints left by the unhappy, you will be very surprised.
Buy a new model. Dont use crap ammo, spend the extra 50cents and use 40 Gr.

My next HG shall also be a Walther. I gotta have the the PPS in 9mm , or the P99QA

ULFLYER in post #9 - Did you mean the Beretta Neos 22 auto? Not to get off topic on the op about the P22 but I love my Neos and my daughter in law who is a newbie shooter does really well with it. She has small hands and long fingers. She can't pull double action on my P345 but can put 100 rounds through the Beretta in short order.

i also would suggest the Ruger Bearcat...that thing has grips basically made for kids...and its the kind of gun that will last may years
on top of that, i believe it will promote better accuracy and making your shots count...when youve only got 6 shots that you have to thumb in one at a time, you are more careful with those 6 shots, not to mention the savings in ammo

I like mine and it's been shot tens of thousands of rounds. I just blast away and grin. It's a lot of fun. Sure, there are guns that might be more accurate, reliable, better build materials or just a better design. You can do a lot worst than a P .22 too. I say, he likes it, you like it, you want it, so go for it. Your boy will love you for it.

rimfirecentral.com has a big following of the P .22 you might want to check out.
