Saw and handled one of each of these at a gun show last weekend as I try to narrow the field of candidates for a CCW autoloader. The P99 comes in .40 which I like even more which the CZ doesn't (yet), but I still eye polymer frames wearily after how much I hated shooting both size H&K USPs in .40 (I shoot a 1911 twice as good). I do have a CZ75B (and love it) and trust its value, and also loved the fit and balance of the shorter/lighter P-01, and while I'd go with 9mm if it came to that, the P-01 only comes in that chambering and I trust CZ.

Anyone want to fill me in on what these two guns are like to shoot, especially the P99 in the larger .40? Also, since the S&W/Walther SW99 comes in .45ACP like the S&W 457 I'm currently eyeing-, I'm wondering how well it stacks up to its Walther cousin? Thanks for any help.

I don't know much about the .45, but the P-99 in 9mm is the best Walther makes, in my opinion. I would go with one of the German made ones if you can afford it because they come with 2 16 round mags. I don't know about the .40, but I think it comes in 12 round mags. I would take a Walther over a CZ any day of the week.

the .40 never has had any preban full caps. there were rumors left and right but from what ive read around none are out there for civilian purchase even in walther.

i have a .40 sw99 and LOVE it. the kick is not much different than the 9. both sheslinger and I have shot them back to back, you dont really notice it that much. She has a titianum coated p99 in 9x19 and my standard black sw99 in .40. We played with them back to back at the range, they feel so much alike. the .40 has a snappy recoil thats about it. the 9 kicks as hard but not a fast acceleration it seems. the .40 has a sting, where the 9 has a thump. Accuracy in the .40 isnt as precise as the 9mm but is perfect for a service/defence....or just could be me shoooting like crap :D. sorta account it for trying to brace for that snap and pulling it abit. the sw99 is a great pistol. the p99 just looks prettier :D.

but if i were to buy a p99 it would be a 9mm tho. just for the looks of the slide, and that its the orginal version....

Hey Bowlcut, you said sheslinger has a titanium coated walther? Is hte whole thing coated or just the slide? Do you know if she has a pic of it to post? I would like to see that.

yea just the slide, its the weird off tanish color of titanium. i dont know if she has a pic handy or if cslinger happens to have one. I didnt grab a pic of it when we were shooting, dont know why. it gives the gun a weird look, two tone....and not silver.....its intersting. if nothing else if she brings it to the shoot this weekend ill snap a pic of it.

Here's a pic of a Titanium-coated P99:

You have 2 close versions of the same type of gun....close :scrutiny:

The CZ is an excellent weapon. They fit my hands like the P99 does after you screw with the backstraps, if they have one that fits you? The P99 has all of those front sights in case you need to dial it in from the factory...most CZ's shoot POI/POA.
The P99 offers "semi almost cocked and locked" carry which I like alot, but still carry my PCR after I was almost tempted to get a P99. I found one with nights for 399$...I didnt buy it, which was sick and wrong!

The CZ is as compact, feels better in my hands (my hands are highly biased  ) and I like metal guns.......not that I dont like plastic.
I charge on mine all of the time :what: :neener:

Either way, you will do very well. Shoot well
