Walther PDP - Pretty Damn Phenomenal

Green was all that was available when I got mine, and that wasn't all that long ago. I would have preferred red too, at least at the time.

Now that I have the green, Im having second thoughts. If they have the SCS in red now too..... decisions, decisions. 🤔🙄🤪

I do wish they would offer three dot sizes instead of the circle and circle/cross versions.

A friend of ours got the compact model. He allowed me to fire it. Oh boy, nice pistola. The ergonomics were a touch off for me as I routinely operate a G19 the trigger seemed low to the hand probably very fixable withe the assorted of backstraps provided. Very soft recoil , seems lighter than my Glocks. Well made firearm.
If I was in the market... yea, I would have one.

I really like the SCS and have one on this PDP, my Glock 17.5 and G21.5. I like to have a lower 1/3 co-witness with stock sights due to the low form factor and direct-to-slide mount, and I like the solar charging function. The only thing I don’t like, but isn’t much of a problem, is the lack of brightness adjustability. Sometimes I like to dial down the brightness on my other RMRs and Holosun 507s for when I want to do some serious target work at 50 or 100 yards. Other than that, yeah, I agree it’s the future of optics. Oh yes, I forgot to add that I prefer the green dot due to my vision issues (old blind man).

Edited to add: I will probably get another SCS for my CZ P-10F when I can find one, and if I find an HK VP9 that I like at the LGS tomorrow, I’ll get one for that as well. I am also looking at the Walther steel frame match and, an oldie but goodie, an HK USP .45.

Edited again to add: my PDP trigger keeps getting better. I lubed it with some super-slick racing bike chain oil and dry fired it about 500 times and it’s even smoother/crisper/better. I ordered the Sprinco kit for it but I might not need it? It’s at 3.4 lbs now.

I am also looking at the Walther steel frame match
I took both to the range yesterday, my PDP and my Q5 Match SF Pro and after shooting about 50 rounds through the Q5, I got the PDP out and shot one mag full. Put it back in the bag and continued shooting the Q5.
There is no comparison between the two.
I need to get a joint replacement in my thumb on my right hand so I can't shoot the PDP with it, to painful. I shot 150 round through the q5 with my right hand yesterday with no problem though.

All that extra weight of the steel frame soaks up the recoil to the point there really isn't any, and it has a better trigger than my PDP Pro SD has. The Q5 has much better open sights on it, although I have a red dot on it now to. I'm not young any more either.

I bought the PDP Pro SD so I didn't end up using the Q5 as and every day range toy, but now I shoot the PDP left handed or I shoot the Q5 right handed.

Nice. Is the effect of the comp noticeable with respect to muzzle rise and recoil control (such as it is)? Do you run it with a lighter recoil spring?
Running a DPM captured guide rod. Flip is still there, but less noticeable than stock 4.5", Type F, or the bastard made from the leftovers of the pic above. (Compact frame, full size slide)

Just realized I ended up with 4 PDPs haha.

Titegroup Tiger:
What a bummer about your joint, and I can see how the steel frame Walther would be the ticket vs the PDP. I just got back from the range after putting about 500 rounds through four guns, one of them the PDP Pro SD. First off, I am shooting it a little better each time as I “meld” with it. This was the first outing with the HB Industries micro comp and I can say that it works. This is approximate but I’d say it reduces perceived recoil and muzzle flip about 15%. Ejection became very anemic with Federal 115 grain factory fodder and I experienced a few failures to eject in each magazine. I had no trouble with Blazer Brass 124 grain, which was the only other ammo I had. So clearly, it’s mitigating recoil. I’ll leave it on there for now and either shoot hotter ammo in it or look at a reduced power recoil spring. I also noticed the decrease in ejection “oomph” with the other pistol I put that comp on, the CZ P-09, but that was able to function 100% still.

Today I am going to put the brass backstrap in the PDP and try it out again tomorrow. I tried out a few HK VP9s and I liked them better than I remember, so I may pick one up.

Van Funk,
It maybe up under the foam in the lid. I don't know if they are weaker or stronger but the Pdps with threaded barrels come with them and in the owners manual it says its for using with a compensator.
I'm on my phone and it won't let me quote what someone else said.

I just got my SCS PDP 2.0 Holosun sight.
I like to have a lower 1/3 co-witness with stock sights due to the low form factor and direct-to-slide mount,
I can see all my sights through mine. Very happy about that. When I got mine I had to raise the rear sight way up to get it to shoot POA at 20 yds. That's probably why I can see all mine.

Big Time! My PDP is strictly a left handed proposition.

The only thing I don’t like, but isn’t much of a problem, is the lack of brightness adjustability.

When I first got my Holosun SCS out of the box I turned it on and I didn't have my glasses on and I couldn't see anything through it but a bright green blob, and I would push the button quickly and it would dim.

I noticed my glasses laying on the table so I put them on and the reticles were very crisp and clear. LOL!

But try that on yours, once it's turned on, push the button quick and see if it dims your reticle.

The reflex sight on my Q5 is red and I think I see the green as good if not better and it seems easier on my eyes. I know every one's eyes are a little different. I need to get mine to the range to try it but I have to go out of state for a while and that will have to wait.

Haha! I never looked in the box; I’ll see if I have the lighter spring in there. Convenient if so! I put the brass (cerakoted black) backstrap on yesterday and it’s a definite improvement, the gun balances a bit better now and I’m sure that’ll help. I’ll try the trick with the button on the SCS. I definitely get less starburst and aberration from green dots than I do with red. Thanks everyone!!!

I added the Sprinco kit today with the yellow spring installed. It feels a little lighter sprung but it’s hard to tell. I think I can scoot to the range to try it out with 115 grain blasting ammo. The Sprinco unit seems impeccably made so I hope it works out. With the mini comp, the Sprinco spring and the brass backstrap, it should be a very flat shooter.

The German Special Forces are switching to the PDP:

1715214960293.png What is that abomination on top of that PDP?

They call that a duty gun? A competition trigger system, flared mag well, with no safety for a military ops gun? That's interesting! More power to them.

I think you have a good recipe for a flat shooter, and a fun, serious, range toy.
Don't know if I'm buying the brass back strap yet but from your thoughts on it, it's sure tempting.

I added the Sprinco kit today with the yellow spring installed. It feels a little lighter sprung but it’s hard to tell.

I started out with the factory spring and shot a couple k rounds, then bought the Sprinco set and used the red spring (stiffer spring) for about 3K rounds for my heavier loads, and then last week went to the yellow spring and it is definitely feels lighter to me. My PDP was having problems locking back on the last round and cycling with my target loads, with the red spring, and the yellow spring stopped that completely.
I'll be interested to here from you how your gun works with the yellow spring and the micro comp.
I like the thought of a non-directional, easily removeable comp instead of the thread protector.
TT
