Walther PPQ/P99 long slide

With the factory 17+1 mags available it is time the P99 or the PPQ goes long slide. M&P Pro, Sig X6, G34, P30L, Taurus 24/7, XDM...all the players have them.

Walther is doing all it can do to fill up the backlog of orders for the PPQ and P99 so I would not expect such any time soon if ever especially since in 15 years they never made a P99 long slide. I would expect a PPQ compact first anyhow.

Yeah - I doubt it too. I just don't see much market for one. Walther has been content for years to focus on service-size pistols and compacts. They made a long-barreled P88 Competition back in the day, but no one bought them.

Also, the PPQ/P99 is such an accurate service pistol design to begin with, there's probably not a whole lot to be gained with a long-slide variant.

Nah. The P88 doesn't count because after the P210 it was the most expensive non 1911 auto on the market. A long slide P88 beat the P210 in cost actually.

I would buy one. Clearly there is a market...XDM, P30L, 24/7, G34/G35/G17L, M&P Pro... P30L shows there is a market for a PPQL

I agree it is super accurate but I find the P99 and PPQ (and glock 17/19 equivalents) too large to carry. Why wouldn't I buy a P99L?

Meh. I am thinking a PPQc isn't going to come out. On history I have 7 years to be right until it does, but I don't think Walther will make one.

The P88 cost about $1300 in late 80s. They proly sold just as well as expired cartons of milk.

Aint going to happen ever. Read the other posts. The P99 and PPQ are best out there. I had a P30L for while and it was nice but no real improvement over a P30. In the real world or in combat what advantage would a P99L have? None. Only thing it would do is impress are the masses and the folks who where pants with too many pcokets at the range.

Its like going with a super low profile tire and nice set of wheels on your ride. Thye look real purdy but on the street they dont give you an advantage in cornering or grip. However, they will keep your alignment dude happy, your tire shop happy and the place you take rims to happy.

Yes, the .45ACP with 4.5" barrel and rounded top slide from S&W is hard to beat especially around $400. The 9x19 P99 is good but we all know bigger is better!

I agree with this:

The XDM, Glock 17L, etc., were made to be competition pistols, something Walther doesn't seem too interested in making, in a defensive caliber. The P30L was made to win a police contract in Germany that required a longer barrel than what was on the standard length P30, otherwise the P30L would have probably not existed either.

With as similar as the PPQ is to the P99, I would not expect Walther to add any extra PPQ models other than maybe a PPQ compact, and in a response to an E-mail from a member on the Walther forum, Walther stated that they have no plans to make a PPQ compact at the moment either.

If they made a long slide version, say 5" barrel, in either the PPQ or P99 models I'd buy one. So would a lot of people here.
