Walther PPS for Sig 938

Need every ones input especially those who have a 938 on whether I should sell my Walther PPS 9mm and purchase a 938. There's nothing wrong with the PPS I just love the looks of the 938. By now, has Sig worked out all the issues?

What serial numbers should I stay away from?

Would you make this transaction?

I am not qualified to make an opinion on whether you should swap out your Walther, but I bought a spring 2013 production 938 and love it. Knowing that polishing the ramp was highly recommended, I did so immediately, before I shot it. Using economy 115 grain rounds, I was averaging a failure to feed every box or so. I switched to 124 grain CCI Lawman ammo, and it has been flawless. I also have put about 75 rounds of 124 grain NATO through without a hitch. Sig recommends premium ammo up front. The NATO is + p, which is okd by SIG for infrequent use. The 938 likes to be well greased. I am pleased, and carry it often.

I wouldn't. If the reason is that you think the Sig is prettier then you need to think long and hard about trading.

Does the Sig have the same manual of arms as the Walther?
What do you mean Sig only recommends "premium ammo"? A well designed pistol will shoot anything you stuff in it if it needs to. I've got match pistols that are very picky about ammo but my carry guns have to be able to shoot anything.
Doesn't like 115 gr. ammo? This is the most common weight of 9mm anywhere in the world, how can someone sell a gun not reliable with that?

I don't personally carry a Walther, but my daughter has had one a couple of months that I bought her for a birthday present. Prior to that she had only shot .22 pistols. When she first started shooting it I had to do a little training on grip to keep her from limp wristing. But in December she took a Ladies Intro to Defensive pistol course with it and just completed her CHL Saturday (50 rounds) with no failures of any kind. She's shooting WWB 115 gr., as cheap as it comes.

It's much more important to have a gun that works every time and that you are used to shooting. It sounds like you will only have one defensive pistol so think really hard about changing if you are used to the Walther.

Both are great firearms from reputable manufacturers. I don't recall any widespread issues with the P938 that were not addressed by SIG. Go by what feels most comfortable for your hand, but you won't be wrong with either one.

As you are aware, the PPS has no issues. Why trade down?

You haven't given any criteria except looks - which is subjective, and you obviously like the looks of the P938 so why ask other people? Go ahead and make the trade.

My friend just bought a brand new 938 in December. Failures, failures, failures.... He hates it. I just bought a PPS and haven't had a single hiccup. I'd keep the PPS.

Looks does not make a gun quality.

If you shoot one well then get the 938

I love the look of the FNP-45, but mine was choosy on ammo and the ethos were not the best for me. So it's gone

I have a P938 purchased last fall. I've had no failures of any kind. Have shot both factory loads and my mid range handloads with no issues. Love the gun. I'll add that I also have a P238 with no issues.

I would never trade a PPS for a SIG 938.

First of all, I will admit to being a fan of Sig Sauer ... mostly. That being said, I would keep the Walther without a second thought. I have been considering the PPS myself - and my EDC hardware are all Sigs

The more I carry, the PPS, the less I want to keep buying guns. After 10 years of concealed carry, I think I've found "the one".

I would never go from a reliable gun and risk getting an unreliable gun.

First let say I have a PPS and would not give it up for a Sig 938.
The Sig has/had issues and it is a SA w/safety. If you need it in a hurry and isn't why we carry, a safety is one more thing to think about.
The Walther PPS is thinner (the safeties make the 938 wider), is like a Glock, pull and shoot, extremely reliable and is less expensive to boot. I added Meprolight night sights and it is still less than I could have gotten a Sig for.
If you really want a SD pistol because it looks better go for it. If you want something that works, stay with the PPS.

The Walther PPS is quickly becoming my favorite EDC. Personally I do not like safeties on a handgun. With that being said nothing is a pretty as a 1911 (which the 938 is in miniature).

I would not make the trade. Additionally, I had a 238, which I just recently sold. It was 100% reliable but i'm done with safeties. I also sold my 1911.

PPS or Glock, is the way to go (with the Sig P239 being an exception ).
