Well after not attending a gun show in 20 years I thought it was time to checkout the "BIG" one. billed as the worlds largest. Well it cost us $10 each to get in and had to park almost a mile away. But we enjoy walking :) Really nice weather here. The show was packed being the first day. Many dealers two levels full. I did not see any real deals on Glocks or 1911s I only found one SIG 220 ST he was asking $1000. lots of holsters and Ammo. I found only one guy with some Rem. GoldenSaber 45 230gr JHP going for $12.95 I picked up two 25rd boxs for carry.:) Found a Glock take down manual "copyed fair"$5.00 I fould the Comp-Tac holster booth looked for a fullsized 1911 RH but they only had a LH:mad: Guy said if I paid for it at show he would ship it Monday from HO TX for $49 and they would pay shipping. Hey it's only $47 on their Web site so he was not giving away the farm for me:rolleyes: I did see a gut looking at a Surefire X200 they had it marked $219 he offered $200 and it was a deal. I see them on the Net. for $189 I know the dealers have to eat.:p The wife did notice something "she is really watchful" saw this dealer get paid $2000 in crisp $100 bills and the dealer just handed two guns in boxs to him. No paperwork just cash and carry.:uhoh: With all the ATF guys always watching the gun shows that dealer had balls  Really dangerous for him me thinks. Anyway I enjoyed looking at all the stuff but I feel there was not any real deals being done legally anyway. I guess it's my last show but one never knows:

Pardon my ignorance...

Where was this show? (City and State)

Does your state require FFL transactions for all personal sales? Was the $2000 deal with a FFL dealer, or was the table dealer a private party also?

I like gun shows. But I have to admit, they aren't as much fun or exciting as when I was 25 years old. (But neither is sex, so I guess I should stay in perspective.)

Hey, I went to that show today. It's in tulsa oklahoma BTW. I went in with 100 dollars and I came out with a mosin nagant 91/30 in great condidtion with an awesome bore, all the doodads that ussually come with em' and 80 rounds of silver tip 7.62x54r ammunition. And of course a smile!

This is my first centerfire rifle and I love it already (I fiddled with it for about an hour after I got it) the action is suprisingly good (I wasn't expecting this from a 65 year old gun) It has all matching numbers and the wood is in good condition, not perfect but this is a shooter, not a museam peice. The guy who sold it to me was also very helpful.

I had to LOOK to get a decent price though, I saw regular old mosins for 150-180 on average! The lowest price I saw for an m44 was 100 dollars. Yes, most of the stuff there is outrageously priced but I have learned the good deals are worth looking for.

This was the show in Tulsa, OK. It is a great show - around 4000 tables on 11 acres. I wish I could have made it this year. You probably witnessed a private transaction or a transaction that was already completed. No dealer would risk his license and business to do such a thing.

It's the BEST show in the country. We used to live in Tulsa and worked the Red Castle Gun Club booth.(you got in free for helping the club) Joe Wannemacher is a great guy and has worked hard for a long time to build this show up to what it is today. He also works hard for the FNRA in that area.Dang,I sure do miss living in Oklahoma....:(

rugerdude, glad you finally migrated over!

And about that $2000 deal, is it possible that maybe the guy filled out the form before handing over the money, or he filled out the form, and ran to the money machine to get money while the form was being checked?

Or better yet, was the gun on consignment, and the dealer stupid? I argued with a dealer once that even guns on consignment were supposed to be NICS checked. He didn't want to, because he knew the rules

Yeah, I noticed a guy giving a dealer 4 not too wrinkly 20s and a 10 dollar bill as I walked off with a mosin nagant because the guy was my dad and he already filled out the paperwork.

"rugerdude, glad you finally migrated over!"
Well, it had to happen sooner or later.

You don't really go to the Wanenmacher to find deals, although they do happen from time to time. You go to see all the classic guns that you won't see anywhere else. Man, it's killing me that I'm not going to make it this time around. But after 4 nights at work, I'm sure I'd park the truck in a ditch on the turnpike somewhere. Oh well, there's always April.

Went today, just got back. Bought a couple of cheap 1911 mags for range use. Dont know if I will go back in April or not. The same stuff was on the same tables from the last 8 shows, with the exception of new hi cap glock mags, which means nothing to me. (1911s rule!)

What really got me POed

Has nothing to do with Wanenmachers show.

It has a lot to do with the powers at Tulsa County Expo Sq.

This weekend in the fairgrounds in Expo Sq. the County powers removed
all but one (1) set of water fountains located in the far corner on
lower level during the Wanenmachers Gun Show. Just shows how far they
the County powers will go to screw a few more dollars from people who
attend the shows on County property.

:cuss: :fire:

Just got back from the show. I bought two guns from private owners. They did not advertise that fact. I only found out when I gave them my drivers license and asked about the yellow form. One seller said he only runs checks for handguns, something I did not think was required in OK for private transactions. Maybe it's just him.

The private owners are old guys (like me). Maybe they were just thinning the herd. Must be a big herd for some of these guys.

The show is like walking through a gun museum. Lots of great old guns.

I also got two case of 7.62x39 for $150 out the door.

Recommendation: if you even remotely think you will buy ammo, bring one of those two wheel dollys like you see in the airport. I used the ammo guy's dolly but had to leave my drivers license as collateral.

Today being the second day was not too crowded. But sellers started packing up about 2 pm. There were several PA announcements that if dealers left before 4 PM they would be punished next show by not setting up early.

If you have never been and get the chance...GO! It is HUGE. Yes, $10 is steep to get in, BUT.. the last show I went to for $5 entrance fee, I saw everything in 2 hours. NOT THIS SHOW.

:)

I knew it would be a good show when I saw a guy in a power wheelchair with a gun rack and a couple rifles on the back of it.

This is a great show and I got some good deals on some knives I was looking for.
The only down side is that I heard some of the dealers complaining about the cost of tables - $90 EACH! That's kind of steep to me but I guess they get more potential customers there than anywhere else.

I have been going to it, on and off, since the early 80's but missed this one. Great show expecially if you like to walk--> for hours. Ammo is plentyful and cheap. Year's ago you could find all kinds of good deals on guns but anymore that is becoming scarce. I find myself going more to the Grand National Show here in Tulsa more and more. Not as crowed and full autos are allowed. I think the next one is the first weekend in December, I will have to check:D

12/4/2004 - 12/5/2004 Grand National Gun & Knife Show

Better deals on guns, just smaller, and not as likely to find the little stuff your looking for. Both W and GN are the only ones I go to regularly. RK is to small, and I went to a Metcalf, wasn't impressed.

I think I have become addicted to milsurps so I'll be forced to attend the one in aprilish when I can have some money saved up. Darn you mosin nagant for being so cool!
