THAT'S MY BOY!!!!

Unfortunately the photo posted doesn't really show off his good looks and charm (spoken like a true mother, I know)...but when I downloaded the high resolution picture at the above link, I could even tell that it was time for Mama to send her young man some moisturizer for those dry elbows, LOL!!!

I am so proud of my son! Those things he's messin' with are called JDAMS. The actual bombs themselves weigh a couple thousand pounds...and make a really big BOOM!

If anyone has the time to drop a line or two, let me know and I'll send you his address. Letters from the States are like gold over there in the sandbox. I know he would really appreciate it. :)

Mama06...

I would like to personally thank you for raising such a fine young man. In my many years in the AF I have come to appreciate the outstanding resource we have in our young enlisted troops. They truly are what allows us to translate our capabilities into action.

Be proud of him for he, and many others like him, are doing an outstanding job in the service of our country.

LOL Mama you're so cute.

But I prefer to call them JDARNs :D

Ladies and gentlemen, I'm thinking that a postcard, some ink and a stamp isn't all that expensive.

Since some are thinking of adopting this Airman, I guess I should tell you a little about him...

My son, who was homeschooled, was the first one to see the news on 9/11. Being homeschooled, it was a daily assignment to watch TV news from at least 2 sources, read at least one newspaper, and search the net for news sites...then give me a report on what he thought was going on each day.

On 9/11...the report was instantanious. He knew in his gut as soon as he saw the first plane hit what had happened. He also knew he had a calling to fulfill.

My son turned down an offer to have a room in the new 'honors dorm' at a State university here to join the AF. With his GPA and ACT scores, he could have had a cushy life with full scholarships and the works...but he said his country needed him now.

At first, I thought he was just being a pig headed guy about it. But, that was the 'mama' in me wanting him to take the safest path. He told me that he would go to college later, but his country comes before himself...and he meant it.

I tried to never let him see how afraid his decision made me...because it was his decision as a man.

The way I see it, it takes a real man to choose the more difficult path when he feels it is for a higher cause...and I'm so thankful I had the honor to help raise a real man

He joined the delayed entry program and never looked back, knowing full well with his IQ and abilities he could have taken a different, easier path. Sometimes I think he chose do do things this way because his grandfather joined the Army just before WWII and his uncles joined the Marines at the beginning of Viet Nam. They were all highly decorated.

About month after 9/11, he wrote this piece of poetry that I want to share with you all. My son...the warrior poet. ;)

Holy Knight

His calm eyes peer
Into the embroiled night,
Cautiously they search
For the hatred and spite
That is caused by the evil
That plagues this land.
The rivers have drained,
The fruitful fields now sand.

The small tranquil hamlet
Is home to no more life.
The stench of decay so thick
You could cut it with a knife.
Fear and chaos surround him,
Still his spirit does not crack,
As he perseveres in his quest,
Never glancing back.

His heart is noble and pure
His actions always just,
He quivers at nothing
For in God he trusts,
To guide and assist him
With this dreadful chore.
All evil will be hunted
Until there is no more.

With his shield gleaming
And his blade razor like,
He wanders the earth
In this perpetual hike.
Never once self doubting
Or having second thought
About the enemies slain
And the battles he has fought.

Off into the darkness
He is bound to go again,
Until all wickedness is purged
Forever from this land.
A small light of hope
Illuminates the night,
As he vanishes into the shadows
Again to fight the noble fight.

Thanks for taking the time to read this...

Thank you. I have another picture he sent me of him working in the 'sandbox'. You can see his face a bit better in this one. :)
