Hey guys!
I bought a used S&W 1076 in great shape a while ago and while I'm carrying it with 165gr. Corbons right now, I wanna step it up to Thermonuclear and try out some Double-Tap and handloaded stuff.
I'm wondering if I need a new recoil spring though. It still has the factory spring, which I think was 17 pounds, (way to light for 10mm IMO). Anyway, I think that being 10-years old, the spring is a little worn and am concerned about the hotter loads speeding up the slide and battering the frame and causing damage such as cracks.
I'm not worried about recoil, heck, I LIKE recoil, but I want this gun to outlast me, so I'm considering upgrading to a 22-pound spring to save the frame and slide. Is this smart? Also, will the heavy spring have trouble cycling light practice loads?
Or am I overreacting and it'll eat high-pressure stuff just fine?
