Heh, aren't we all?

On a semi-serious note, don't be led to believe (by LE, Media and Government) that just because we are mostly untrained, non-professional (most of us at least) civilians, that we will not be effective if that unfortunate day should come. We should never sell ourselves short. Each man with a scoped bolt-action hunting rifle has the potential to wreak total havoc...do the math.

Is the Ken Farrell base really that much higher than other bases?

Falconeer,

Yeah, it's quite a bit higher than a Badger or TPS 20MOA base. However, you have limited options with a Savage and the Badger base is a lot more $$$ than the Farrell. I think you will be quite pleased once you get the Eagle stock pack.

Huh, didn't know/think of that before I bought. Ah well. :) The stock pack is en route, and I'm sure I'll upgrade the stock down the road. Thanks kindly for the info!

Here's hoping I get to shoot this weekend! :D

I'm happy with my set up for the most part. I have found an issue with the Ken Farrell base being somewhat high. It's not a huge deal (I have a stock pack coming that should improve the cheek weld), but it is an issue. On the other hand, to go with a Badger Ordinance 20moa base you're looking at $135 to $150, whereas Ken Farrell charges $78. I'm planning on putting a better stock on this rifle at some point down the road, at which point the height issue will disappear.

It all depends on what you want to do. I tried to find the best combination of price/performance that I could. Everything I've read says the 10FP is a very solid rifle for the money. With the right optics, rings, base, and shooter skill it's definately a sub-MOA shooter. Feel free to ask any questions; I'm no expert, but there are a bunch of them around. :)
