Thats what im talking about they cost as much as the gun:banghead: I need to find a good place to find some really nice fire walnut or something like that and try and make my own way to much money for grips.
Lets see Pietta Colt Navy .44 cal $165
COnversion cylinder $225-250
Nice stag horn grips $250
$640-$675 <----- this is crazy hell I can buy a new ruger plus a bunch of supplies. And still have money left over for a 12 pack of really good beer.:banghead:

Bigbadgun, why don't you make some grips out of Cypress wood. Peel the bark off and let the wood dry and it is extremely light and very very hard. The grips would last three lifetimes...Okay...

Dixie sells some grip blanks pretty cheap ..they need a lot of work to finish .,.I bought a set of rose wood 2 years ago ..I`m still trying to find time to finish them .

K.A.T...What do you know about JS GRIPS? He says he can do Pietta and Uberti model grips, but since he dosen't know how the screw holes line up he requests people to send their grip frame to him. That dosen't make any sense to me at all.
I'm not sending my grip frame anywhere. Might end up like 'BIG IRON BARREL WORKS' or whatever their name was that I was reading about on here. If he can't look at a picture or schematic and make a pair of grip panels that will fit a certain revolver then he's in the wrong business.
That briar sure is pretty though.
I like Ajaxgrips. com. I just looked at them and then called them. Spoke with a guy in customer service named Doug. I think he's got his s*** together...Okay...

Dixie Gun Works sells walnut 'blanks' for one-piece Colt-style revolver grips. You have to shape them, sand them, and then finish them. They're quite inexpensive, and that's how the originals were made.

nicholst55, now THAT sound's like the way to go. Instead of sanding down the one that came one it I could work on a set of blanks with a real sharp knife blade and some emery/fine sandpaper and get them to fit real good. Then I could stain them real dark myself and burn (hard hand rub) some linseed oil into it and then finish up with Tru-Oil. I have always wondered about and sort of wished that the Walker had come with much darker wood but I didn't want to mess with the set that came on it other than to Tru-Oil them to help protect against weather and sweat and etc. Thanks...Okay...

Well I just got back from home depot I bought a plank of oak real nice grain
a plank of Red maple and if I cut the wood right I can make it look like fire maple and I also bought a plank of Cedar so now I need a band saw because my coping saw aint gonna get it I made one side out of the red maple already and the grain looks really nice but I am gonna do the other side then figure out how I want to finish them but it looks promising.once I have a set finished I well post pics.

Band saw is kinda pricy. you otta try a jig saw if anything. you can pick up a bunch of different types of blades. i would use a larger size blade to just get a ruff shape. Then switch to a smaller toothed blade to fine the shape. then its all about sanding.

It can be done. i picked up a 2 foot oak hand rail. Then i cut it and re shaped it a bit and made a really narly looking forearm grip for my 12 gauge NEF. It really looks mean when i put it on.

Ok here is a prototype for my 1858 Remmie the reason it is a prototype is I got the fitting wrong but i went ahead and did the fitting for the most part and did the stain on it tell me what do you think this is Maple wood.
Scrat I ment to say scroll saw but i did this one with a coping saw. Keep in mind this is my first attemp.

Bigbadgun, that is the worstest and ugliest damn excuse for a grip panel I have EVER seen. I wouldn't let my neighbor's hound dog sleep with that! I wouldn't even put that on a damned ol' ROA!!
Just kidding Bigbadgun. It look's pretty damn good. Actually it look's real damned good. You done yourself proud. I'm proud of you...Okay...Now, isn't that better than paying some jackaroo $250.00 or more for something that don't even look as good as what you just done? Plus it's kind of like building your own round in blackpowder. It make's you feel better. Plus you can engrave it a little or maybe put your initals in it, all sorts of stuff...Okay...
