looking to add a .40 to my collection... I want a small and light weight one that will be easy to carry in the summer... any ideas? smaller than a cougar...

Glock 27 or 23.
The 27 is smaller and easier to conceal but larger hands can have trouble holding onto one. The 23 is a good midsides gun and my normal carry gun in .40

If a very compact, accurate, and relativly light .40 is what you are looking for you should definatly check out the Springfield XD40 Sub Compact. I carry one every day and can hide it with just a T-shirt. I have a Sig 229 .40 and it's a great pistol, but it's alot bigger than the XD.

Or, be sensible, go to a good shop with a range that rents guns, find some that fit your hand, then rent a few of those. The money you spend there could save you bundles later on guns that really don't work well for you.

I've been more than pleased with my HK P2000 in .40 S&W. It's worth taking a look at. Mine conceals just fine but if you're looking for something smaller there is the P2000sk. Otherwise any of the suggestions so far are all good. Go with what you like.

I went to the shooting range during lunch today. I was shooting a G30, G23, S&W 65-2 .357, and a Colt Lawman MKIII snubby .357. Today, I was shooting my best groups with the Glock 23, even though I carry the G30 as my everyday carry gun. The 23 is a very nice gun, and pretty darn accurate.

Once I just bought a Bersa :neener::neener:

For easy carry you can get the Thunder 40 ultra compact (availbable even in 45 ACP), barrel 3.6 inch

But I can tell you that even my Thunder 40 full size (4.4 inches barrel, 13 + 1 capacity) is incredibly compact and light, I carry it very easily and I'm not that tall (only 5,7)

Life warranty, very well made, all the "must have" features (external hammer, decocker, firing pin lock, ambidx safety and "round in the chamber" indicator)....and the price is right

Like many have already said, go to a range that rents or find some friends that have some to try before you buy one.
Do try a Sig P239 and a P229.
The P239 is a single stack sub-compact and the P229 is a double stack compact.
The P239 is just heavy enough that the recoil of the .40S&W is not hard to take.

Everyone I've let shoot my P239 in .40 S&W can't believe how 1)accurate it is and 2) pleasant to shoot it is.

I've even shot it in a USPSA match while my girlfriend shot my P226. I did pretty well with it considering I was shooting a compact with 7 round magazines vs everyone else shooting full sized with ten rounds.
