Hello

I have a RIA 1911 Tactical, to which I would like to fit a Burris Fastfire II mini red dot. The gun has a "novak style" dovetail cut for the rear sight.

I am looking at the specs on the Burris sight and it does not seem that it would work. I cannot get Burris tech support on the phone, so, trying here. Here is the detail from Burris:

http://www.burrisoptics.com/pdf/FastFire Product Guide.pdf

You will notice that the adapter plate for the Burris mini red dot is flat...while the Novak cut in the Novak specs and on my gun show milling that creates a flat area, 1/8" below the top of the slide, just to the rear of the dovetail cut. Further, the top of the 1911 slide is rounded, and the Burris plate does not seem to be.

I have been reading about how many people have been using these and cannot seem to be able to reconcile what is going on.

Any help would be appreciated. Am I supposed to live with the plate being mounted above this milled flat spot? Use some filling in? Is the detail shown on the Burris site incorrect and the adapter plate actually does match the contours of a 1911 slide?

Thanks,

John

Here is the detail on the Novak cut. These seems to be how my RIA slide is milled for the "novak style" rear site.

The GI 1911 adapter fits the RIA "Standard" pistol rear dovetail. That is what I have.

Hi Wally

Thank you for getting back to me. It is good to know you have had good experience with your Burris.

I was wondering if you or anyone else had experience with their Novak cut adapter? The govt one looks more straight forward, the Novak cut has the slide milled down 1/8 inch rearward of the sight cut.

Thanks

J
