Doses anyone have any thoughts and experience in improving the accuracy of the Mini 14? I currently have a SS ranch model with a 2x scope-accuracy is poor, about 4-5 inches at 100. This is off of a rest. We even tried a variety of ammo with no real change in results.
Any opinons would be appreciated
Thanks

Agreed; perfectunion.com has a whole forum dedicated to it. Everything from cryogenic barrel treatments, biathalon stabilizers, recutting and crowning, muzzle brakes, glass bedding, adding an ultimak rail, etc, etc... There is an unspeakably vast volume of knowledge to be tapped there.

You should be able to cut your groups substantially with as little as $75 in mods. As mentioned, go to the PerfectUnion website and look at the "Accurizing" section of the Mini-14 forum. Lots of good info in there.

I had a trigger job done, installed a smaller gas port bushing, a muzzle brake and a recoil buffer and now my groups are in the 3" range at 100 yds using the factory iron sights. At 50 yds, I can get about 1" groups from 5-round series from a rest and shooting fairly slowly so that the barrel doesn't get too hot. This is with iron sights too.

Mini-14's tend to be picky about ammo. Mine will shoot best with UMC 55gr FMJ or Winchester Q3131. The Winchester 45gr varmint round is all over the place as is the Wolf stuff. I have tried some 62gr SS109 and it tends to keyhole at 100yds.

After the trigger job, the pull went down to about 2.5lbs in both stages, and the gas port bushing stopped the empty cases from travelling the typical 20 to 25 feet to less than 4 feet!! Now I don't worry about peltng shooters to my right at the range :D
